May/Leatherman
Family Tree

This page is for researching the ancestors of Melvin Earl "Buddy" May. His ancestors came to Dallas, Texas in the late 1800's from Marion County, Illinois and Logan County, Kentucky before that. I have found Mary Elizabeth Tate May and her children in Texas but not John E. May, but the story passed down says that he came also. When he reached the Trinity River, he flipped a coin to see which side of the river he would settle on and it came up on the west side so he ended up living in West Dallas instead of the downtown Dallas area.

Names being researched: May, Tate, Seymore, Bundy, Leatherman, Bates

Visitors to this site since Oct. 31, 1998:

Listed below is the descendancy for Melvin May's great great grandfather, Anderson R. May. Anderson was married to Martha Ann Seymore. They were married in Logan Co., KY and had three other children besides John Everette. They were M. J. (a daughter), Mary Ellen, and Jesse H. If anyone has any further information on this line, please contact me at the e-mail link below.

Below that I have a link to the Minnie Lee Leatherman family line, who was Melvin's paternal grandmother's family. Minnie was born in Clairborne Parish LA and married William E. May, son of John Everette May. The Leatherman line has been traced back to Louisiana, Mississippi and Pennsylvania dating back to the early 1700's.

I will soon put a link to his Tate Line, which was his paternal great grandmother's line. Her parents were Owen Tate & Nancy J. Bundy. After Owen died, Nancy married Anderson R. May who was the father to John E. May. John later married Nancy's daughter, Martha Elizabeth, mentioned in the descendancy list below. Owen Tate's line goes back to a John Tate and Mary Doak. John came from Ireland and married in VA then moved on to SC.
