July 9, 1892

McDonald PA Record

At the celebration at the Robinson Run church in the Fourth, Robert WALLACE, clerk at Samuel SHANE’s hardware store, had his right hand terribly mangled and almost blown off by the explosion of a large firecracker which he was lighting. Mr. WALLACE’s many McDonald friends hope soon to see him back at his post.

 

 

November 26, 1892

McDonald PA Outlook

Mr. George DAUGHERTY was struck on Monday morning by the east bound Burgettstown accommodation near Miller's Crossing and so badly injured that he had to be sent to a Pittsburg hospital. The injuries were in the head and side and it was thought he could not live.

Mr. DAUGHERTY has been a resident of McDonald for many years. He was a fireman at the Rend works. He has property near that place and a wife and two children. His brother Dennis died last March, and another brother was killed by the cars near the same place about sixteen years ago.



Dec. 3, 1892 Outlook

Mr. George DAUGHERTY, who was so badly hurt by the cars at Miller's Crossing, is recovering and is expected home next week.

 

 

July 9, 1897

McDonald, PA Outlook

The David WINTERS shooting at Midway happened this way: It was Sunday night, and Mr. WINTERS was preparing to go out on an errand, and took his revolver from the cupboard to put in his pocket, as has been his custom. As he picked it up and drew it toward him, his hand caught on the shelf, the muzzle was turned toward him, something pressed the trigger, and, it being a self-cocker, two shots were fired into his face before he knew what was the matter. So what was thought to be an attempted suicide was really an accident. It occurs to anyone on reflection that a man is not likely to try to kill himself by shooting himself in the side of the neck and in the jaw. Mr. WINTERS recovers.



July 24, 1897

McDonald PA Outlook

Will BROWN, son of School Director David BROWN, who was a few weeks ago so seriously injured on the railroad, is left without hands excepting the front part of the right hand with the thumb and two front fingers, the left arm being off above the wrist. This leaves him in good shape for writing, telegraphing, and being in other respects sound and strong and with a bright mind this young man, who is now twenty years of age, has, after all, much before him in life that is promising.

 

 

July 25, 1924

McDonald PA Record


While helping to cut hay on land owned by the National Mining company at National No. 3, Cecil township, on Thursday of last week, Mike SEMINICH, Jr., 13 year-old son of Mike SEMINICH of National No. 3 was caught by the cutter bar of a mowing machine and his left leg so badly lacerated that amputation was necessary. The accident occurred, it is said, when the boy attempted to make the horses that were drawing the machine move more rapidly. Before he could step aside the machine was upon him, and when it was stopped, the leg was found to be horribly mangled. His condition was reported good at the hospital last Friday.
