"Obituary" of Andrew Hopkins, a prominent editor
in the state, from The Reporter newspaper, Wed., Mar. 10, 1880, page unknown:
"Obituary" of Andrew Hopkins is as follows: "DEATH OF ANDREW
HOPKINS - Andrew Hopkins, Esq., who had been in critical condition for some
weeks, died at his residence in this borough at five o'clock, on Friday morning,
aged about fifty-five years. He was the oldest son of the late Hon. Wm. Hopkins,
and died on the seventh anniversary of his father's death. He achieved some
prominence in the State as an editor, having been connected with the following
named papers in the order named: The Examiner, Washington, in partnership with
T. W. Grayson,; The Daily and the Weekly Union, Pittsburgh; Legal Journal,
Pittsburgh; Patriot, daily, Harrisburg; Observer, Erie, Lycoming Standard,
Williamsport, and the Review and Examiner, of which he was owner and publisher
at the time of his death [no city listed, but the Examiner was a Washington, Pa.
newspaper]. His newspaper career covered a period of thirty years, and he was
well known throughout the State as a trenchant writer. He leaves a wife and two
daughters.
Notice of his funeral will be found elsewhere."
