Trinity Lutheran Church - Chicago,
Trinity Lutheran Church, currently First
Lutheran Church of the Trinity, was organized in 1865 as a member
of the Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod. Originally located at
old Hanover and Kossuth, changed to S. Canal and 25th Place around
1884, it later moved to
31st St. & Lowe, at 643 W. 31st St.
Family lived on 164th Kossuth, a few
doors east from the Pastor Louis Lochner who lived on 162
Kossuth. Trinity was across the street at 153 Kossuth. My great
grandparents, John Kruse and Marie Sommer were
married at Trinity on 9 September 1884. Five of the first twelve
children were also baptized here between 1885 and 1892, Sophia, Walter,
John, Marie and Nelly. My Uncle Walter Kruse played pro football
for the Cornell
Hamburgs of Chicago. The next seven children, William, Carl,
Minnie, Frederick, and Florence were baptized at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church.

Kruse's sister, Maria Kruse Thode, husband Adolph and 5 kids lived at
168 Kossuth (shown with a T). John Kruse's other sister's family,
Minnie Kruse Lehmann, husband Fred and kids lived at 202 Kossuth and
just east of the railroad tracks on the next block.
To the right is the 2007 map showing the old Kruse house location at
164 W 25th Place or old
Kossuth. It is just north of the Dan Ryan I 90/94 Expressway. Old
Trinity would be at the southeast corner of W 25th Place and S
Canal or right underneath the Expressway.
