Hermann Family of Preston, Ontario, Canada
by Carolyn Hermann

Updated News 9/20/04 : Hermann Family was from Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Carolyn sent an email to Preston looking for church info.  She got an amazing offer and reply from the
Reverend Erich Schultz that he would look up some records in the St. Peter's Church book in Preston.  This
showed many of the children born to John and Wilhelmine Hermann, including a death record of Johann
Friederich Hermann.  The record shows he was born in Frankfurt am Main on 12 Sept 1833 and died on
5 Oct 1894 at the age of 61 years.  Frankfurt am Main is the large well known city of Frankfurt and off the
Main River in the current State of Hesse, Germany.  Back in the days when the Hermanns were there its
German name was also known as Frankfurt, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia.  See the old 1882 map of Hesse.

Johann “John” Frederich Hermann was born on 12 September 1833 in Frankfurt, Germany.

He later married Wilhelmine Bauer, daughter of Wilhelmine and Johann “John” Bauer who was also
from Germany.  It is unclear whether the Hermanns and Bauers all came together to Canada or not.

John was a butcher by trade and had 8 children all born in Preston, Ontario, Canada.
Ida, Henry, Wilhelmine, John, Elizabeth, Alvina, William and Carl.

Son, Henry Hermann, married Mary Elizabeth Boos in Chicago on 3 Feb 1882.  See Marriage License
They had 4 children, John in 1888, born in Chicago, followed by Lillian, Myrtle, and Anna.
Below is a picture of John in World War I.
