The Last Letter Written By Joseph Talbert "Bert" Fisher

In 1928, Bert Fisher was diagnosed with cancer. He died in September after just a few months of illness and futile treatment. He was 24 years old. As summer ended and it became obvious that he would not recover, in spite of various treatments with radium and whatever else the medical professionals of the day offered, the family got together one last time in Guthrie, OK. Bert's brother, Benton, along with their Father, Tom Fisher, took Bert to Tennessee where Benton lived. There was a doctor there who wanted to research Bert's case and make as many notes and "pictures" as possible to aid in developing some future, better treatment for the condition. Bert wrote this letter to his Mother. It was his last. He died on Sunday, September 30, 1928.
