On June 10, 1846, John W. Grammer entered the service as a private in Co F of the 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry, better know as the "Claiborne Blues" since they were almost all enlisted from Claiborne Co. John became ill on the march to Mexico and was injured during action when he was thrown from his horse while carrying dispatches. He stated that he was a participant in the battles of "White Bridge" and "Vera Cruz". Here are images of the original documents.
