of the County of Mercer and State of Ohio being in bad health but of sound mind
Knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death & being advized
that my situation is critical by my Physician I have made this my last will and
testament to wit.
First, I give to my beloved wife Hester Ann all my estate both real &
personal so long as she remains my widow after however the payment of all my
just debts and until my son Jeremiah becomes
the age of twenty one. then he is to have fifty acres set off for him on the
East or west side of said farm as he may choose, and should my said widow
choose to alter her situation by marriage then she is to (?be put upon?) her
thirds the remaining part of my tract of land, after my sons fifty acres is
taken out to be divided amongst my five daughters
to wit. Caroline, Martha Jane, Lucinda, Susan & Elizabeth the third
between them and my son to ____ north & south and my said widow is to keep
all my personal property that may be left after the payment of my debts so long
as she remains my widow but on marrying she is only to have one third thereof,
and I want my brother in law, Thomas Parrott to act as my executor to this my
last will and testament. & I hereby revoke all other wills heretofore given
as witness my hand & seal this eighteenth day of August in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred forth eight.
