From his death certificate it is taken that he had lived in Missouri about 43 years

Enlisted 24 March 1862 Chillicothe MO. -Discharged at SpringfieldMissouri 22 April 1865.  Elias was a Wagoner in Company H of the 6th Regiment,  State Militia Calvery Volunteers of Missouri

Enlisted 23 April 1862; Private

He owned his own Horse and Equipment. Capt. Henry V. Stull and Colonel Lealhrwood/Ealhrwood

 

Injured in January 1864 in Chillicothe MO.  Elias was thrown from the horse he was riding as his horse stumbled.  The horse fell upon him, dislocating his right shoulder, crushing and breaking his right foot; a permanent disability .  His left thigh and leg were also badly bruised. He applied for a disability Pension. at Trenton, Grundy Co.,Missouri December 31, 1869.  In 1869 he resided in Livingston CountyMO.  Pension 162.302 Cert.127.686

 

Elias was a hired hand for Thomas Boydston:

 

Thomas G. BOYDSTON was born in 1807 in Pennsylvania. He owned land inKosciusko County, IN in 1836 in Wayne Co., Ohio. He emigrated in 1844from Wayne Co., Ohio. He immigrated in 1844 to Kosciusko Co., IN. Hewas a miller, bought mill and Boydston's Lake (now Webster Lake) inDec 1846 in Boydston Mills (No.Webster), Kosciusko, IN. He was a FirstPostmaster for North Webster in 1848 in Boydston Mills (No.Webster), Kosciusko, IN. Our Missing Links, Vol. 04, Iss. 3 (Boydston, p.2,8,9; Irvin, p.12) p. 2 Thomas G Boydston listed as a Postmaster in Tippecanoe Township,1848.  He was a gold miner between 1850 and 1853 in California. He died on 17Mar 1861 in Boydston Mills (No.Webster), Kosciusko, IN. He was alsoknown as James ?. In the Bio on Benjamin Yohn from The Biographicaland Historical Record of Kosciusko County, IN, by The Lewis Publishing Company 1887, pg 216 to 218.

 

Benjamin Yohn was married to Elizabeth J. Boydston daughter of Thomas G. and Jane (Nichols) Boydston, natives of PA. Benjamin Yohn had worked for Thomas G. Boydston in his mill in North Webster starting in 1847. In the spring of 1850 Mr. Boydston went to California and rented the mill to Mr. Yohn, who ran it until it was burned in June, 1853. Mr. Boydston returned from California in 1853 and rebuilt the mill in 1856. Thomas Boydston died 17 March 1861 aged fifty-five years, and is buried in a private burying-ground near the grist-mill. Line 346 family 296 in 1860 Census of Grundy Co., MO. Resided in a home on the farm of Thomas G. Boydston, with wife Saraand no children.  First Child born in Grundy Co., Missouri in 1852.  Thomas Boydston left Kosciusko Co., about 1851 for Gold in California.  He traveled via St. Joseph Missouri.  It is suspected that Elias and Sarah traveled with him but stopped in Grundy Co., MO.
