1808 -
AN AGREEMENT: Not long after arriving in Ross Co., Ohio, articles of agreement
were drawn up between Gabriel Coil and his four sons,
JOHN COIL, JACOB COIL, JAMES COIL AND THOMAS COIL and entered
upon. Recorded in full in Deed Book Vol.
8, page 161, Chillicothe, Ross Co., Ohio:
For caring for their parents, Gabriel and Rebecca Coil, these four sons
received a tract of land consisting of 1200 acres. This being the uppermost end of a certain
tract of land bought of Henry Massie lying on Sugar Creek. All parties concerned signed these articles of
agreement. (20 July 1808 Ross Co., OH)
Articles of agreement made and entered into between Gabriel
Coil, Sen. of Ross County and state of Ohio of the one part and Jacob Coil,
John Coil, Thomas Coil and James Coil, all of said county and state aforesaid
of the other part.
Witnesseth:
that the said Gabriel Coil, Sen. for and in consideration of the stipulations and
agreements entered into by and between the said James
Coil, Thomas Coil, John Coil and Jacob Coil, the said Gabriel Coil, Sen. do
hereby bind himself his heirs to warrant and forever defend unto the aforesaid Jacob Coil, John Coil, Thomas Coil and James Coil a
certain tract of land lying and being in Ross County and State aforesaid
containing twelve hundred acres being the upper end of a certain tract of land
which he purchased of Henry Massie which tract contained sixteen hundred and
thirty acres and lying on Sugar Creek and the said Gabriel
Coil, Sen., do hereby warrant and forever defend the aforesaid tracts of
land unto the said Jacob Coil, John Coil, Thomas
Coil and James Coil, my sons, to them and their heirs and assigns
forever to the only proper use and behoof of them their heirs and assigns
forever and the said Jacob Coil, John Coil, Thomas Coil
and James Coil on their part do obligate themselves their executors and
administrators in consideration of the aforesaid twelve hundred acres of land
as aforesaid to maintain and aid their father
Gabriel Coil Sen. from the date of
these presents until the expiration of his natural life as well as their mother Rebecca Coil which maintenance is to
consist of comfortable fare in every respect suitable to the wish and
inclination of the said Gabriel Coil and Rebecca his
wife for and in consideration of their maintenance as a aforesaid do
hereby transfer make over and covey all their personal property of every
species and sort, money excepted unto their aforesaid sons,
Jacob Coil, John Coil, Thomas Coil and James Coil to them and their
heirs and assigns forever. In witness,
whereof, the parties have hereunto set our hands and seals this ----- 20th
day of---- 1808.
