He was married to Elizabeth Koontz (daughter of Jacob Koontz and Elizabeth Spar) about 1846 in Fayette Co., Virginia. Elizabeth Koontz was born in 1827 in Virginia. She died after 1910 in Fayette Co., West Virginia. Thomas McVey and Elizabeth Koontz had the following children:
