Recently, I started researching my father's family in an effort to learn more about them and to solve a mystery. My father, Ernest W. Mobley, was one of the children born in Wilson, NC to George N. Mobley and Elizabeth Lamm (Sept 1895 - Feb 1979). My grandmother, Elizabeth Lamm, was adopted as a young child by Nathan W. Lamm (3 Mar 1857 - 12 Jan 1915) and Martha E. Barnes (Sept 1862 - 1940). The story handed down in the family through oral history is that Elizabeth Lamm's real mother was Sis Page. A few months ago, my aunt told me that Sis Page's real name was Sally Alice Tomlinson and she was born 30 June 1869 and died 6 June 1954. Sis Page supposedly lived on land in Wilson County owned by Nathan Lamm with her other child, Rose (Rosa?) Page (10 Oct 1893 - 1 June 1967) when she became pregnant with Elizabeth. The story goes that Nathan Lamm was Elizabeth's real father, so he wanted to raise the child himself. I've been told that the Lamms adopted Elizabeth when she was about 3 years old. Sis Page had another child, Jesse Page, but I don't know his birth and death dates. My grandmother told me years ago that she never understood why her real mother gave her up, because she was the middle child. My grandmother thought that if you were going to give up a child, you would give up the youngest one. I want to know if anyone can confirm or add to this story. The only other thing I know about the Tomlinsons is that Sally Alice (Sis Page) had a brother named John, according to my father. My aunt told me that Sally Alice's mother (name unknown) did not want Sally Alice to give up Elizabeth for adoption but Sally insisted on doing it. Someone told me that Sally Alice was married to a man with the surname of Page who died before my grandmother was born. Someone else told me that Sally Alice Tomlinson was never married. I have no idea if either of these things are true. Since I live in Balto, MD, it isn't easy for me to research the story. Any information relating to this story would be appreciated, as well as additional information on the Tomlinsons and Lamms. Thanks very much for any help from anyone.

Hello Sylvia:
I'm not sure if this is the same family that you referred to in your message, but check it out and let me know what you think.
Jesse Eason Page b. 10 Oct 1868, married Sallie A. Thompson on 6 Nov 1890. Sallie A. Thompson b. 30 Jun 1869 d. 6 Dec 1954. (exact same dates as you listed) I have her as a Thompson instead of Tomlinson. Thompson was the name given for marriage and cemetery records. She is buried in the Cedar Grove Missionary Bap. Ch. Cemetery, Old Fields Township, Wilson County, NC.
Jesse Eason Page and Sallie A. Thompson Page had the following children listed:
Rosa Page b. abt 1892 (the same other child you listed)
Lizzie Page b. abt 1896 (Lizzie could be a nickname for Elizabeth)
Jesse Pendleton Page b. abt 1898 d. 1956 (same brother's name as you listed)
Lizzie is the middle child, the same as you listed.
The information that you received about Nathan Lamm is the same as what I have. Natham Lamm and the Page family that you mentioned lived in the Old Fields Township, Wilson County, NC. I'm not sure if they lived on the land owned by Natham Lamm or not. I don't haave any information about Nathan W. adopting Elizabeth Page.
If you think it's the same family, I do have additional information on the Page Family.
My great grandfather, Solomon Lamm and Nathan Lamm were brothers.
My great grandfather, Penalton Page and Jesse Eason Page were brothers.
I know of a Sadie Mobley from Lucama, Wilson County, NC b. 26 Jan 1896 d. 16 Mar 1965. Is she on of your relatives? She lived on hiway 301 south, at the intersection of Mobley Rd.

Billy:
Thanks very much for responding so quickly to my message and please forgive me for not getting back to you in detail as I promised. As I told you, my father's family has the last name for Sally Alice (aka Sis Page) as Tomlinson, not Thompson, which I recently confirmed with my father. Additionally, my father told me that Sally Alice had a brother named John. However, I have already found that names are spelled many different ways in the written records, as I'm sure you have, too. I would love to have copies of the information you have and will gladly share the little bit I have with you. Please email me directly at sjacobs@@smart.net when you can. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sylvia
P.S. - My father doesn't know a Sadie Mobley but he left Wilson about 1945, so he may be related to her and not know it.

My mother was from Wilson and I have her notes on Lizzie who was raised by Martha Barnes Lamm b. 1863, d. 1940.
Martha Elizabeth Barnes was the sister of George Washington Barnes,b. 8-12-1849, d. 3-25-1918. Martha married Nathan Lamm and her brother George married Lucinda, Nathan's sister. In my mother's notes I found these notations.
Lizzie Lamm's real mother was Sis Page. Sis lived on a farm owned by Nathan and she took her child Lizzie to Nathan's house and told him that he would have to raise her. We know that Uncle Wash(as he was called) and Aunt Matt raised Lizzie. Lizzie was married to Robert "Rob" Bass of Black Creek. She had 3 children by him. Bruce, Irene and third child unknown. Lizzie's second marriage was to George Mobley of Bailey, N.C. They had 5 children. Lizzie Grey, Wade Anderson, Lee Alice, George Henry and Ernest Washington. There is a note that Lizzie made her home with Ernest until her death in 1979. There is an additional note about her being married to a Carpenter from Wilson. But there is no additional information on him. She was also married to Robert Driver and she is buried beside him in the George Barnes Family Cemetery on Wiggins Mill Road in Wilson, North Carolina.
Hope this infor helps.
