Study of these leads to three major groups of Fellows[1] in Buckinghamshire in the 16th to 18th century.  They may all be connected to an earlier common ancestor, or not.  There is also evidence of relationships contained in wills that show the same property in more than one group over time.

The first group is documented mainly in the “Archives of the Earls of Buckinghamshire.  They are centered in the Parish of Hughenden and the earliest confirmed ancestor is Richard Fellow who was born around 1480 and married Joanne.

The second group is documented in “Small accessions 1-100”.  They are centered in Chepping Wycombe and the earliest confirmed ancestor is Thomas Fellow, ironmonger who was born about 1650 and married Rebecca.

The third group is documented mainly in “Lowndes of Chesham”.  They are centered in the Parish of Chesham and the earliest confirmed ancestor is Robert Fellow born about 1590 and married to Elizabeth.  This family has been connected to our American Fellows.

[1] Note – for simplicity the spelling Fellow is used throughout, however the documents variously spell the name Fellow, Fellows, Fellowe, or Fellowes.  The 17th century handwriting was mistakenly transcribed by Wilber K. Thomas in the 1930s as “Follow” from an old Bible.  No “Follow” surnames are found when searching the National Archives of the UK online, but hundreds of  Fellow, Fellows, Fellowe, or Fellowes.
