The grants to Thomas Grubbs, James Ingram, and Ephraim Owings can be found on a map of original landhold grantees in Township 3, Range 4 East of the Jackson Purchase - this area identified as "North Central Calloway County, including the Wadesboro area". Their grants adjoined each other. No Woodwards or Utleys appear on this map. There is no date provided with the description of this map. But the Jackson Purchase was added to the state in 1818 when it was purchased from the Chickasaw Indians by Andrew Jackson, so any grants were certainly made after that date.

James Ingram held land in in the SE quadrant of section 9, Ephraim Owings' land was adjoining to the west in the SW quarter of section 9. Wades Creek began in Ephraim Owings' land and flowed eastward through James Ingram's land. Thomas H Grubbs' land was in the NE quarter of section 17 which adjoined the SW corner of Ephraim Owings' land. James Ingram held additional land farther south in the NW quarter of section 33.

This land was located in the Northern part of Calloway Co. Merrill Utley's land was located a little farther north in what is now Southern Marshall Co. No land records for James Woodward have been found at this time, but surely James was not living far from Merrill Utley.

Because these three families held land so near each other, it appears likely that the Woodward wives might have been sisters. We know from the will of Richard Woodward that he did not have daughters named Phoebe or Nancy. The mother of James Woodward's wife, Elizabeth Utley, was named Phoebe, so Phoebe Woodward could have been a daughter of James Woodward and Elizabeth Utley who was named for her maternal grandmother. Richard Woodward did have a daughter named Lucinda. Her husband can be proven as James Eubank by other records. So Lucinda Woodward who married Ephraim Owings cannot be Richard Woodward's daughter. Although Phoebe, Lucinda, and Nancy Woodward who married in Calloway Co, KY appear to have been the children of James Woodward, we have no records at this time that prove his children.

Several sources have been found that claim that Lucinda Woodward Owings was a daughter of James Woodward, but not one of them cited any records to prove this connection. One source, Owings and Allied Families by Addison and Elizabeth Owings, states that Ephraim Owings married "Lucinda Woodward (b. in NC 1802 d. 29 Aug 1875) dau of James Woodward".

Because no records were cited, we can't be sure that this wasn't just an assumption based on the fact that James Woodward lived in the same county and was of the right age to have been Lucinda's father. The Calloway Co records need to be carefully searched to try to find records that will prove James Woodward's children. At this point, all we can say is that Phoebe Woodward Ingram, Nancy Woodward Grubbs, and Lucinda Woodward Owings of Calloway Co, KY look likely.
