Orlin has almost nothing about Polly or Millicent; he mentions that Polly was born August 3, 1789, and married Roswell Gleason. After Polly's death, Roscoe married Millicent, who was born March 28, 1797.

LDS does not add a great deal to our knowledge of Polly, Millicent or Roscoe, although it does record Roscoe's third marriage. I had noticed evidence of a marriage of Roscoe to Olive, but thought it was another of the same name. Further searches supported the identification. A different LDS record mentioned a daughter Huldah for Roscoe and Polly, and gave the name of the man she married, Asher Smith Hall (it actually seems to have been Smith Asher Hall). An examination of the census records from 1820 through 1850 showed two daughters and a son for Polly and Roscoe, but of course produced no names. Roscoe was gone by 1850, and there was only one Gleason family, headed by Albert, living in Jericho at that time. It was a good guess that this was the son of Polly and Roscoe, but without confirmation, it remained an educated guess. I was able to trace Huldah Hall; she had two children, one of whom was called Myron in one census, and Myra in another. In 1880, Huldah and Smith Hall are alone, but living next door to Mira Tomlinson; and "Mira" is the right age to be Myra Hall. Again, it was a very very likely identification.

It was at this point that my searches brought me to a book published in 1916 called The History of Jericho, Vermont, Burlington Vt., Free Press Printing Co., edited by Chauncey H. Hayden et al. The biographical section includes material on the Gleasons and on the Lowreys, both of which proved useful. Below are two images from this book, chosen to show just how much information some of these older books can have.

Polly died in 1831. Roswell married Polly's younger sister Millicent in 1832. Millicent lived only a couple of years after her marriage, dying in 1834.

After Millicent's death, Roswell Gleason married a third time, wedding Olive Bicknell Orr on March 31, 1835. She outlived him, not dying until 1875. They had one daughter together.
