Like some other pages, this one started with an obituary appearing in 2007. This was Daniel's; I was able to find his brother's from 2002, which had even more information. With these, I was able to trace the line back.

Obituary for Daniel P. Fay, Jr.
Obituary for Laurence Lee Fay

Patrick, Mary, Peter and Martin came to the states some time between 1880 (the birth of Martin in Ireland) and 1884 (the birth of Emma in Massachusetts). The 1900 census gives 1880 as the year of entry, but the 1910 gives 1885, and other dates are given in the records for Peter. Patrick settled in Massachusetts

1900  MASSACHUSETTS

The only other census in which Patrick is listed is that of 1910. He is seen there with his widowed mother Julia, his wife Mary, and his son Peter. NEHGS records the deaths of a Mary Fay and a Julia Fay in 1910 in Worcester, but there is no other information available. Patrick is not included in the Worcester deaths of 1910, so he probably died later. Since Julia was not with the family in 1900, I tried to find her in 1900, in the hope that I would learn Patrick's father's name, but I was not successful.

It was not possible to follow Emma after 1900 when she is with the family. Extensive searches of NEHGS and census did not find either a marriage or a death for her. Similarly, Martin also disappears after 1900.

1910  MASSACHUSETTS

Peter moved between 1910 and 1914 to Pennsylvania. He then moved again to New Jersey between 1922 and 1930. Peter's son Daniel grew up in New Jersey, but moved to Florida about 1952. And Daniel Jr. moved to Alaska.

1920  PENNSYLVANIA

1930  NEW JERSEY

We know that Patrick was naturalized at some point. Peter's answer to the citizenship question on the WWI registration was that he was a citizen "by Father's Naturalization Before Registrant's Majority." On the other hand, in the census of 1920, he gives the year 1905 as the date of his naturalization; and he had been an adult for a long time at that point.
