Index 1, Statement 6

DEXTER, MINN. June 4, 1897

This is to certify that I have known Mrs. Amanda C. Fay for several years and know that she has no income and depends entirely on manual labor for support.
She bears a very high reputation for known rectitude and I believe her to be a true Christian woman.
G. W. Buck
Subscribed and sworn to before me
this the 4th day of June 1897
B.S.Benner
Notary Public

I B. S. Benner do hereby certify that the applicant
Mrs. Amanda C. Fay is well known to me and is
and that she has no children under the age of 16 yearssee note
respectable and worthy of full credit.  And I further
certify that I have no interest either direct or indirect
in the prosecution of this claim.
B. S. Benner
Notary Public

[ Note: there is an insert here. Benner wrote, "I B. S. Benner do hereby certify that the applicant Mrs. Amanda C. Fay is well known to me and is respectable and worthy of full credit." He then added the words, "and that she has no children under the age of 16 years" between two lines of text. Thus the full sentence should probably read, "I B. S. Benner do hereby certify that the applicant Mrs. Amanda C. Fay is well known to me and that she has no children under the age of 16 years and is respectable and worthy of full credit." Another possibility would be, "I B. S. Benner do hereby certify that the applicant Mrs. Amanda C. Fay is well known to me and is respectable and worthy of full credit. And that she has no children under the age of 16 years." In either case, the end of the phrase is, "And I further certify that I have no interest either direct or indirect in the prosecution of this claim."]
