     Charles Clay was born on 31 January 1716 at Cumberland County, Virginia. He was the son of Henry Clay and Mary Mitchell. Charles Clay married Martha Green, daughter of Thomas Abner Green and Elizabeth Marston, on 11 November 1741 at Amelia County, Virginia. Charles Clay died on 25 February 1789 at Cumberland County, Virginia, at age 73.
