In fact, Edward Richardson had two wives, both named Elizabeth, which accounts for Vinton's confusion in describing the provisions of his will.
He first married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Hale, following their declaration of intention to marry filed in Newbury on December 11, 1696 (Newbury 2, 419). We have no record of the death of his first wife, but we do know that he married Elizabeth Clark on December 30, 1731 (Newbury 2, 419). It seems obvious from the provisions of Edward's will that his second wife was the widow of Thomas Clark Jr., who died on August 11, 1729, (Newbury 2, 567) and who had married Elizabeth Perkins of the Isles of Shoals sometime after declaring their intention to marry on July 12, 1715 (Newbury 2, 104).
