Mary Browne was the first female child born in Newbury, according to The Ancestors, Families and Descendants of George Edward Richardson and his wife Eva Horner, compiled by Helen Richardson Kluegel, New Orleans 1976.

Her father, Thomas Brown was born about 1607 and came from Southampton in 1635 by the James, in the employ of Thomas Antrum. He reached Boston June 2 bringing his wife, Mary Newhall, daughter of Thomas of Lynn. Mary died June 22 1654. Thomas died January 8, 1687 aged 80.

He was a weaver of Malford, Wilts, about 6 miles from Malmesbury, sometimes called "Christian Malford" He took the freeman's oath May 22 1639 and the Oath of Allegiance in 1678.

He went to Newbury, and had a farm at Turkey Hill and was granted a house in 1645.

Richard, George and James were proprietors in Newbury in 1642. (No other record found.)
