They lived Talbot St.Palmyra, Kent County with 12 children. Lydia Shippee wasdaughter of Zebelon (Zebedee) Shippy who lived in DutchessCounty, NY.

Claborn and Mary were married in 1836 in Illinois. However, shewas born in 1819 and said she married when she was 15 whichwould make them married in 1834. 1840 census of Illinois,Shelby County: Claborn Hooper (20-30) and wife (20-30) and sonunder 5 (Eli) and daughter under 5 (Sidney) and daughter 5-10(Suzanna). He enlisted in Illinois Volunteers May 1, 1846 forthe U.S. - Mexico War and was discharged 25 May 1847. Theymoved from Illinois to Arkansas in 1849, settling about 4 milesfrom Magazine, Arkansas. 1850 census of Arkansas, Scott County,Boon Township: Claborn and Mary: Suzanna, b. abt 1835/36, Eli,b. 1837, Sidney b. 1840, Mary J. b. 1841, Peter W. b. 1844,Grace A. b. 1845, Martha b. 1847, Josephine b. 1850 Papers frompension records in U.S. Archives in Washington D.C. for widowsof U.S./Mexican War veterans: Claiborn R. Hooper (note spellingof first name.) enlisted at Shelbyville, Illinois May 1, 1846 asa Private in Co. B commanded by Capt. James Freeman in the ThirdRegiment of Illinois Volunteers for 12 months. The regiment wascommanded by Ferris Foreman of the Illinois Volunteers. Hisservice was as follows: in Mexico and enroute thereto as aninfantry soldier and was honorably discharged at New Orleansabout 25 May 1847. The widows pension was $8.00 per monthcommencing on 29 January 1887 until her death. Another pagelists him as in Co. K, 3rd Illinois Volunteers. He was in twobattles: Veracruz and Cerro Gordo and marched enroute thereto.They were transferred by boat to New Orleans where they weredischarged. U.S. Army records state that he was 32 in May 1847,was 5ft, 10 inches tall, blue eyed and light hair. Occupationlisted as farmer. He applied for 160 acres as payment forservice from Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois. (Alternatespellings of first name: Claiborne, Clayborn, Clayburn. Clabornis used here because that is the spelling on his tombstone.
