taken quite of few pictures of headstones.Unconnectable: There is another cemetery in the area called "Lindsay Cemetery" where I have
found quite a few Cowans. If you are looking for someone in particular just
let me know and I'll add their names to my "need pictures list".

The brick and roof are gone. Someone has placed markers for them east of the original grave. And some of the markers have been moved from the center of the cemetery to the back/north side and placed in a row with Peter and Levicy's new markers.

BIOGRAPHY: Smith. Peter Cockerham was born 1786 Lunenburg Co. ,Va. I will have to look up my notes on their death, etc and forward it. Peter and Levicy died the same day, and buried together.
BIOGRAPHY: The Cockerham Cemetery is on the Peter and Levicy Cockerham land. He was a brick maker. The brick that surrounded the grave was made at his place. They are all gone. Only a sunken square remains of the grave.

He had married Levicy Smith in SC abt 1807. Sometime between 1830 and 1838 he moved to Monroe Co., MS.
BIOGRAPHY: Peter, still living in Monroe Co. in 1850....age 64 b VA and wife
vice 62 b SC. He was deceased by 1857 when his heirs entered into a partitOGRAPHY: Was adopted in 1898 by the Carlan Family.
He was the elder son of Elizabeth and James Kolb Sr. of York County.
He is said to have lived on the Turkey Creek and had been a judge or other official of his community. Between 1816 and 1823 he purchased a total of 450 acres on Sandy River and Susy Boles Creek from in-laws: Feemsters, Smiths, Clintons, and Gastons. It appears this was done for the purpose of consolidating the resources of a part of local families for a movement west, for between may 1824 and October 1825 he received grants for 398 acres in the part of the State of Alabama which became the District of Choctaw in the North East of the State of Mississippi, two of the sheepskin deeds being signed by President James Monroe and one by the President, John Quincy Adams. Later Silas procured 159 acres in the District of Sands, the deed being signed by President Martin Van Buren. One of the first mills on "Dry Creek", one to cut lumber for new homes of emigrating families and one to grind corn, and in 1844 he entered into contract with his sons to restore and maintain these mills.WILL: In possession is a copy of the will of Silas Kolb, written on August 14, 1849. Probate was processed on October 7, 1850
