ROCK CHURCH HOLDS MEMORIES
FOR MANY

The Marvin Chapel Church known as Rock Church, was built in the year of 1874.  This two-story Photostone building that stands on the bank of the Paluxy river holds many memories not to some few who still live near it but to many who have moved to far away places.  Most any time you go into this building you see names and addresses written on the black board by those who have come back to strole [sic] over the playgrounds and go through the building where they one time attended church and went to school.

For years this rock building was used for church, rural schools and the second story for [a] Masonic Lodge, at one time it was one of the largest rural schools in the county.

In the year of 1906, a new Methodist Church (a frame building) was built by Mr. Alvin WOOD of Tolar, the ones who donated money to build this little country church [pictured above], were:

Although there is no longer a school in the community and the lodge has disbanded or its members affiliated with other lodges, the building is still kept in repair.  It is used when the community needs a meeting place for any occasion.
