A few years ago we were at the local flea market and found an old dirty suitcase with some beautiful old turn of the century photographs in almost perfect condition. The thought of these ending up in a dump turned my stomach so we bought them. Most of the pictures had names written on the back of them and after a little research we found Christine Martin who is a descendent of the family in the pictures and they are now in her possession.

Both Christine and I wanted these images to remain on this website for other descendents of this family. Note: Of the 3 men sitting in the front row, the middle one looks like Sam Shank from the pictures below, the other 2 are probably his brothers. Pricilla is a sister and standing behind them with another man that may be her husband Elias Crum.

Using the 1900 census as a guide I would say that this picture is of Sam, his wife Minnie and 2 eldest daughter Iva and Stella Fern. It was probably taken around later 1894 to early 1895]
