The Longley Captivity In 1694, Indians raided the Longley family farm near Groton,
Massachusetts. William and Deliverance Longley were killed along
with five of their eight childre. The other three were carried
off into captivity where one died and the others, John and Lydia
survived. Eventually, John and Lydia returned from
captivity. Lydia became a nun. John got married and had
lots of kids.
A Y-DNA study has proven that the Massachusetts LONGLEYs and our branch
have a common ancestor. We may never know if we are direct
descendents of John the Captive, but the story is one that is worth the
reading.
Several websites are available that detail the captivity. Rather
than repeating what they've written (and possibly violating
copyrights), I've added some links to a few of the better ones.
