Mr. Remus Riner
SWAINSBORO,GA - Mr.
Remus C. Riner, 97, died Saturday, May
27, 2000, at Swainsboro Nursing Home.The funeral will be at 11
a.m. Wednesday at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Tommy
Rountree, Woodrow Beasley and Jamie Archer officiating. Burial
will be in Blunedale Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Riner, a native of Emanuel County, had retired from Georgia
Highway Department, Continental Can and as a farmer. He was a
member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Sallie Mae Peebles Riner; three daughters,
Jacquelyn Price, Swainsboro, Jo Ann Thompson, Brunswick, and
Janice Allagood, Baxley; and six grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, Jon Thompson, Jeff Allagood,
Chuck Mason, Jimmy May, Jack Riner, Tommy Riner, Mitch Price and
Donnie Garrett.
Notes:Remus Clifton Riner was the son of Thomas Jefferson Riner and Callie Tapley. He was born on 24 Jan 1903. He married Sallie Mae Peebles (daughter of Richard Tenneson Peebles and Gertrude Woods) on 13 May 1926.

Hollis Sapp, 76, died May
18 (2001) at home. The Evans County native lived in Hinesville
for 36 years. He was a civil service employee of Fort
Stewart, retiring
after 33 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was
a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hinesville.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Louise B. Sapp of Hinesville; a
daughter, Alyssa Frederick of Columbia; a son, Beamon H. Sapp Jr.
of Deland, Fla.; a sister, Sallie Kate Gribbs of Brunswick; a
half-sister, Versie Cribbs of Claxton; a brother, Roger Sapp of
Townsend; a half-brother, Wilton Threate of Claxton; and three
grandchildren.

Chapel in Hinesville. SERVICE: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Carter Funeral

native of Tattnall County and lived all of his life in Evans
& Tattnall Counties. He was a produce Farmer and a Baptist.

77, died Tuesday, (Nov. 13, 2001) at his residence. The Claxton
native served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and worked for
Certain-teed Products in Savannah for 20 years. He was a Baptist
and former member of the American Legion in Springfield. He
enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and sports.
SURVIVORS: wife of 52 years, Lois Sapp,
San Mateo, FL; brother, Inman Sapp, Collins; sister, Wilma
Calloway, Port Wentworth and many nieces and nephews.

home. He was born in Candler County and lived in Manassas most of
his life. He was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church and owner
and operator of Sapp's Roofing Co.

his wife, Shirley C. Sapp of Manassas; two daughters, Cindy S.
Eason of Manassas and Bobbie Souls of Bloomingdale; two sons,

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mr.
James Arnold ``Jimmy'' Sasser, 53, of
5344 Herndon Road, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Botsford Baptist Church
with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Sasser, a native of Screven County, had lived in Burke County
most of his life. He was an agricultural inspector for the state
of Georgia. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and he was
a Baptist.
Survivors
include his wife, Lillian McNorrill Sasser; two daughters,
Katherine Renee Sasser and Elizabeth Marie Sasser, both of
Waynesboro; three brothers, Rupert Wayne Sasser, Jack Sasser and
Carlon Sasser, all of Waynesboro; and a sister, Peggy Sasser
Skinner, Waynesboro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at DeLoach Funeral Home with the Revs. Wayne Dixon and Earl Saxon officiating. Burial will be in Burke Memorial Gardens. Mr. Sasser, a native of Screven County, had retired as shop foreman from Burke County Roads Department and was an honorary Burke County deputy sheriff. He was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Patricia R. Sasser; a son, Rupert Wayne Sasser Jr., Waynesboro; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sasser, Clarkesville; a stepson, Ronnie Gene Parrish Jr., Waynesboro; two stepdaughters, Rebecca A. Mrs. Mollie Lanier Saunders
MILLEN (Ga) -
Mrs. Mollie Lanier Saunders,
age 97, died October 7, 2002, in the Jenkins County Hospital. For
the past year she had been a resident of the Bethany Nursing
Center. A native of Jenkins County, Mrs. Saunders moved to
Bulloch County in 1926 and was a longtime resident in the Portal
Community. She was the
daughter of the late Lloyd C. and Mary Newton Lanier. She graduated from Millen High School and
attended Powder Springs A&M School. She was a teacher in the
rural schools of Jenkins County.
Mrs. Saunders was a seamstress and was a loving wife and mother.
A lifelong member of Elam Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school
teacher and an officer in the WMU. Mrs. Saunders was a member of
the Archibald Bulloch Chapter, Daughters of the American
Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.F. Saunders Sr.; and her eldest son, John L. Saunders.
Surviving
are one daughter and
son-in-law, Betty and Gustave W. Anderson of Savannah; one son,
R.F. Saunders Jr. of Portal; a daughter-in-law, Ann H. Saunders
of Augusta; four grandchildren, Rebecca S. McKenzie of Columbia,
S.C., Dorothy S. McEvoy of Cheltanham, England, Jack Saunders of
Florence, Ala., and Ingrid A. Poppell of Savannah; nine
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service and burial will be held on Friday at 11
a.m. at Elam Baptist Church Cemetery in Jenkins County with the
Rev. Donald Sparks and the Rev. Bill Brown officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson
Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jack Saunders, David McKenzie, Randy
Saunders, Ernest Saunders, Roy Finch and Harry Jones.

Home.
The Bulloch County native was a retired educator and taught in
Jacksonville, Fla. for 25 years before returning to Bulloch
County 12 years ago. She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Vernon Scruggs, Sr.
Survivors
include her son, Vernon Scruggs, Jr. of Statesboro; one brother,
William H. Moore of Greenville, N.C.; one sister, Ruth McMullan
of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside
services will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Eastside Cemetery
with Dr. Don Adams officiating.

Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Short, a native of Oglethorpe County, was a homemaker. She

Pauline Lynn Smith, 78,
died Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Memorial Health University Medical
Center. She was born
November 26, 1924 in Collins, the daughter of William D. and
Eudelle L. Jarriel Lynn.
Mrs. Smith lived most of her life in Savannah where she began her
career with the 93rd Sub Depot at Hunter Army Airfield. She also
worked at the Georgia Ports Authority and spent 15 years with
Southland Oil Company. She was an active member of St. Michael
and All Angels Episcopal Church. Her father and brother Hugh
Elwin Lynn preceded her in death. Surviving are, her husband of 57 years, Arthur T. Smith, Sr.
of Savannah; daughter and son- in-law, Lynn Smith Johnson and
David Johnson of Alpharetta; son and daughter in-law, Arthur T.
Smith, Jr. and Ceceila Smith of Savannah; mother, Eudelle J. Lynn
of Savannah; sisters, Imogene Lynn Hancock of Savannah; Ceceila
Lynn Westberry of St. Marys; brothers, Cecil Ray Lynn and James
Kenneth Lynn both of Savannah; three grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of Bulloch County and was a retired dietitian,

Baptist Church. She was a founding member and past president of
Georgia School Food Service Association, Daughters of the
American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and
Bulloch County Historical Society. She was a member of Statesboro
First Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School for over
50 years and where she was in Gleaners Sunday School Class.

died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Jenkins County Hospital.

Mrs. Strickland, a native of Jenkins County, had retired as a
homemaker and was a member of Lewis Primitive Baptist Church.

METTER,Ga. -- R. Barwick "Skeet" Trapnell,
85, died Feb. 13, 2000 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Candler County. After nine years in
the grocery business he joined Metter Farm Implement Co. in 1942.
After 17 years as parts manager and salesman he became owner and
continued the dealership in 1972 when he joined Joiner
International Inc. in Statesboro.
He was a member of Georgia Farm Equipment Dealers Association for
42 years. He retired in 1985. He joined Metter Primitive Baptist
Church in 1941 and was ordained as a deacon in 1952 and for three
years was chairman of the Board of Deacons. He also served as
Bible School superintendent, president of The Primitive Baptist
Brotherhood, church director of Primitive Baptist Foundation and
church director of Lake Cemetery. He was a former member of the
Metter Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
SURVIVORS:
his wife, Lula D. Trapnell of Metter; two sons Jerry Trapnell of

husband Clyde Tucker and son Carol Tucker. Survivors: son & daughter in-law: Elton & Anne

CLAXTON, GA. -- William
Clyde Tucker, 83, died Nov. 20, 1999 at
the University Hospital in Augusta. He was a member, trustee and
lay leader of Union Methodist Church, where he served in the past
as Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Senior Sunday
School Class. He was past president of the Evans County Wildlife
Club and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a farmer most of his
life.
SURVIVORS:
his wife, Kate D. Tucker of Claxton; a son, Elton Tucker of
Milledgeville; a daughter, Barbara McGee of Augusta; three
brothers, Johnny Tucker of Bloomingdale, and Jack and Edward
Tucker, both of Claxton; three sisters, Melrose Jones of Metter,
Lucille Todd of Claxton and Myrtice Saxton of Bloomingdale; six
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Upchurch, 78, died Nov. 22, 2000 at East
Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was a native of
Bulloch County, lived in Charleston from 1945 until 1980, at
which time he returned to Bulloch County. He retired from the
Naval Supply Center as an equipment specialist and was a member
of the Old Fellowship Baptist Church.

STATESBORO,Ga. -- Mrs.
Sara Ila Upchurch, 101, died Dec. 17,
1999 at Bulloch Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of
Bulloch County and a resident of the Stilson community before
becoming a resident of Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Home.
She was a retired public school dietician and a member of Old
Fellowship Baptist Church. She was instrumental in starting the
Bookmobile with the Statesboro Regional Library.
SURVIVORS:
three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sara Helen Martin of Millen,
Virginia and Gene Brown of Stilson, and Christene and Buddy Meade
of Brooklet; three sons and two daughters-in-law, J.W. Upchurch

Mrs. Dicie Wiggins, a native of Jenkins County, Ga., was a

Mr. Womack, a native of Emanuel County, had retired as owner and
operator of Dellwood Well Drilling and as a farmer. He was a Navy
veteran of World War II. He was a member of Blundale Baptist
Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school director and
teacher.

Medical Center. The Emanuel County native was a farmer and a
retired meat cutter. He was an Army veteran, serving in the 9th
Infantry where he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and
the National Defense Medal. He was of the Baptist faith.
