Lutheran Church of Shelby, Ohio

Charles SMITH, our former secretary of Sunday school, surprised us all by getting married recently.  Mr. SMITH has a quiet way of doing things, ordinarily, and his being married proved no exception to the rule.  Mrs. SMITH is a young woman of prepossessing appearance and is undoubtedly fully worthy of a good boy like Charles.  We join many friends in wishing the young people much joy in their new relation.

The death of Mrs. Andrew SEARER occurred on the 5th inst. at her home south of town.  Thus terminated a long illness and another of God's children has gone to her reward.  Mrs. SEARER was a member of the Lutheran church for many years and died in the faith of her fathers.  Owing to the unavoidable absence from the city of the pastor, the service was conducted by the Rev. Edward M. PAGE, D.D., of the Presbyterian church.

Frank L. SHEARER has been seriously ill for some months, and some weeks ago took his bed; lately he has grown better and hopes are entertained for his recovery.  On the afternoon of the eighth inst. the pastor administered holy baptism   We were very glad that Frank took the important vows of baptism upon himself, and our prayers ascend for him every day.  We also pray for those who watch by the bedside.  May God bless and comfort.

The aged husband of our Mrs. BENDEL has been growing worse of late and the end is not far away.  Mr. BENDEL has been failing for some years.  Some of our members have recently gladdened the heart of this good woman by calling to see her and offering--and giving--assistance.  That is as it should be.  That is work included in the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ.

We are glad to report that Mrs. Fred BEHLER, who has been ill for some time and who underwent a surgical operation, is much improved.  We hope to see her at her accustomed place in church soon.

Mrs. Jacob HERSHISER is still confined to her sick bed, and is in a very serious condition.  May God grant grace for this trial, and may he give strength for every event in his providence.

Mrs. DIXON, who is conducting a select boarding house on East Main street, had the misfortune to sprain her ankle quite severely recently.  It is with difficulty that she attends services.

Mrs. Henry BEISTLINE is so far recovered as to be able to walk abroad when the day is pleasant.  God is good to recover one so aged from a dangerous illness, and we rejoice.

Lucile, the little daughter of Mrs. McKEE, was sick with a mild attack of typhoid fever, but is again recovered.

Mrs. Charles SAYLOR, of the Myers church, is recovering from an obstinate attack of erysipelas.

Mrs. F. A. CLEMMONS has been among the sick of the congregation.

     T. J. VAUGHN was confined to the house for a week with illness.

Elder WENTZ attended the state encampment of the G.A.R. at Lancaster last week.

Miss Izora BLOOM and her sister have accepted positions a stenographers in Mansfield.

It is reported that Mrs. T. A. VAUGHN will retire from the millinery business in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs J. G. HILL, and family, have moved from their recent home on East Main St., to the country.

Mrs. G. W. BARGA left on the 2d inst. for an extended visit to friends in Williams county.

Charles MILLER and family, lately of Missouri, have taken up their residence on the farm of Mr. SHAW, east of town.  This would seem to indicate that Ohio is better than Missouri, after all.  Mr. MILLER is a brother of Samuel MILLER, of our congregation.

Members of our congregation were shocked by the news of the death of Mrs. John BEAVER, which occured (sic) last month at her home in Shiloh.  Mrs. BEAVER was an estimable woman, most active in the service of God and loved by all who knew her.  May God comfort the bereaved family, and may he raise up one who shall take her place in his vineyard.
