The church is an ancient building of stone, in the Early English and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel, nave, north porch and an embattled western tower with a Square turret at the north-east angle, and containing 6 bells : the church was restored in 1877 at a cost of £700, and affords 130 sittings.
The register of baptisms and marriages dates from the year 1660; births, 1728; burials, 1662.
The living is a chapelry annexed to the rectory of Mitchel-Troy, joint net yearly value £296, with 80 acres of glebe, in the gift of the Duke of Beaufort, and held since 1886 by the Rev. Henry Marriott Tomson Bidwell, who resides at Mitchel-Troy.
There are fine views over a great extent of country from Cwmcarvan Hill. Craig-y-dorth, an eminence in this parish, is famous as having been the scene of a memorable battle fought there between Owen Glendower and King Henry IV, in the year 1404, when the troops of the latter were defeated and driven to the Welsh Gate On the Monnow at Monmouth.
Caer-llan is the residence of Capt. Henry Edward Walters R.N., J.P.
The Duke of Beaufort A.D.C. who is lord of the manor, W. C. A. Williams, esq., the trustees of the late James Richards esq. and Samuel Courthope Bosanquet esq. of Dingestow Court, are principal landowners.
The soil is clay, subsoil, marl. The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats and turnips. The area is 3,003 acres ; rateable value, £1,728; the population in 1891 was 215.
