"On Section 12, Fairfield Twp, near the Ogden Twp line, is a burial on a farm, the location of which was prepared by the man who is intered there. Just at the west of the barn a large triangle had been selected and the sides planted to trees, mostly maples, set closely together. They are now large trees and being set like a hedge, forms a very dense shade, except in the center where the grave is. That is sunny and covered with heavy sod.
There is no stone marker, Mr. Reed considering the trees a memorial of his passing.
In the court house, Clerks office, Liber of deaths, B245 is:

Hanson Reed, of Jasper, Makes a Queer request Regarding His Burial.
(a few paragraphs down)
The funeral of Hanson Reed, of Jasper, occurred last Wednesday without religious ceremonies. He ordered his grave bricked up to the top of the coffin, which was not to cost more then $15, and covered with a large flat stone; and no slab of any kind was to mark his resting place. In life he was a foe to religion and all ministers of the gospel.
