SUMMARY OF GROUP-2
From the DNA project results, we have identified at least three Walkers who the
GR-2 DNA participants descend from.
(1) William Walker d 1723 who married Elizabeth Warren d 1728, New Kent
& Henrico Cos. VA
(2) David Walker, father of David Walker (1699-1774) of Goochland Co. VA
(3) William Walker, father of William Walker (1717-1784) who married
Jane Bayes, Goochland Co. VA & NC
The descendants of these three Walkers are matched in the DNA study, confirming
that they descend from a common ancestor. But we do not know who that ancestor
was. We also do not know how these three are related to each other. Records
point to the probability that these Walkers descend from two brothers who were
in York Co., Phillip Walker by 1637 and William Walker before
1657. William Walker had wife Elizabeth and is in transport records along with
Francis Warren. This first William in the records with Francis Warren was
probably the father of the William who married Francis Warren's daughter,
Elizabeth. Phillip Walker died in 1657 and as far as the records tell us, only
had one son, Stephen. It appears that Stephen may have gone back to England
(or wherever they came from) and Phillip’s brother William petitions the court
in 1657 to occupy his land until an heir appears. In the tithes lists of
Goochland Co. 1764 there is the name of Stephen Walker with no tithe number on
land next to Phillip Walker. This Stephen Walker may be a non-resident or
deceased.
There are several participants who have not been able to connect their earliest
known ancestor with one of the progenitors. But by having matched with the
group, they are now able to research from both directions to find their missing
links.
There are three other Walker families who could be related to this group. We
need their descendants for the DNA study to confirm descent from a common
ancestor.
John Walker, d 1767 in Goochland Co., had sons named David, John, Joseph,
and James. David and John died ca 1740 without children.
Alexander Walker, also of York Co., but the one descendant of his in the
DNA study does not match us. We need a second descendant to confirm this.
Dr. Thomas Walker family, whose elder Thomas Walker was also in York Co.
and whose descendants were in King William, Goochland and Albemarle Counties.
