COPY OF A LETTER CONCERNING GOODHOPE CEMETERY.
From: BERTHA GOSSAGE HOPKINS
Maybe I can give you some facts about the GOOD HOPE CEMETERY that will help with the listing.
Just West of the entrance road the first stone is Wm. and Jessie Isabell. On the row just west of that row is Oscar R. Thompson (next to the public road) then north Raymond Thompson(oscar's son); b. July 27, 1920 d. June 18, 1924. Hazel Harris was Raymo-nd's-mother. Then Jessie Rachael Thompson; b. Jan. 19, 1919 d. July 17, 1933. [Mother-Cora MooreFather-Otto Thompson.] Then Cora Moore Thompson, Otto's wife. I haven't an obituary, don't know her date of birth or death.
Then Elmer Tharp. He has a military stone, but don't remember that they give birth and death dates. Born Mar. 13, 1892; obit doesn't state and I've forgotten the exact date. His parents were Henry and Alice Strups Tharp,.
Mrs. Ethel Gertrude Tharp; b.Aug. 16, 1885 d. Jan. 20., 1945there is no stone.
Lester LeRoy Gossage has a stone with birth and death date. Joseph R. Thompson and wife Nancy M. Skiles Thompson.
George M. Skiles.
Emma-Infant daughter of George and Elizabeth Skiles.
Somewhere East of the entrance road I think where some of the Beebe family are buried, is the grave of Winnie Beebe Thompson and her sister Clarabelle Beebe (don't know her married name).
WINNIE BEEBE THOMPSON born April 11, 1882-died July 4, 1908; there were 4 children born, 2 died in infancy, Ivan Thompson (now deceased) and John Thompson of near Macomb. Her father was John Beebe and her mothers name was Jessie
# CLARABELLE BEEBE was buried hurriedly at night.
She was a victim o@ the Spanish flu 1918-1919 and had been dead some days when found by neighbors; her husband was raging with fever and knew nothing of what had happened. Whether he survived, --I do not know. Son Phillips gold me the general location of the grave and that they hung lanterns in the evergreen tree near and opened-the grave by their light and buried her as soon as the grave was ready. Those years were terrible, war, pestilence and food shortages as the Bible prophesied. Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21.
#This refers to STELLA BEEBE UMPHRYES (12 May 1884-17 Jan 1917);
CLARABELLE WAS UNMARRIED.
