Pg189 2/7/1882 Thomas Jeffries of Tylersville, Butler Co, passed to his home above 3rd Jan. He was born in Quennan Co, MD, 15 Aug 1801 and came to Ohio with his parents when about 10 years of age. He md Miss Sarah Morris of the same county, a half sister of the late Elijah Morris, of Urbana. Mrs Jeffries and 7 of their children are still living among the latter is Mrs Samuel PENCE , living near St Paris.

Pg130 6/12/1890 William PENCE an industrious and temperate man, who lived at southwest of town, committed suicide, Sunday afternoon, by cutting his throat with a rusty pocket knife on Sunday. He had ate a very hearty dinner and drank four or five cups of coffee. He arose first from the table and started for the outhouse. As he passed through the sitting room he grabbed an old pocket knife, off the mantle. He got to the outhouse and cut his throat from ear to ear. He was about 53 years old. He was a member of the 45th OVI and a half brother to Elisha and Peter Berry, and formerly lived in Millerstown. His funeral occured Wed.
Pg134 9/4/1890 Mrs Sarah PENCE, who lived north of Millerstown, was found dead in bed, Monday by her daughter, who called her for breakfast. Heart disease is supposed to have caused her death. She was the wife of Andy PENCE but whom she had not lived with for years. She was 55 years old. Funeral Wed. at the Millerstown Baptist Church by Rev Swinehart officiating. Interment at Springgrove Cem.

5/17/1900 William D PENCE s/o Daniel and Elizabeth PENCE was born in Champaign County Jan 20, 1817 and died at his home in Concord Twp May 9 1900 aged 83y7m22d. He was md to Miss Elizabeth Riker, Oc 20 1842. There were born unto this union four children, three sons and one daughter. On the 8th day of jan 1854 his beloved wife passed away. He again married to Miss Henetta McDaniel, who survives him. Services at the Millerstown Reformed Church by Rev J W Yeisly. Interment at Springgrove Cem.

He has a brother Harold Keller and a sister Beatrice Keller. Funeral at the home of Mrs Harrison PENCE.

pg191 1/27/1910 Mrs George PENCE, familiarly known as Aunt Mary PENCE died at her home two miles east of Millerstown Monday, The deceased was in her 90th year, her birthday being Feb 20th. She is the last of a family of eleven children. She was the d/o Mr and Mrs Adam Barger and was born in VA coming to this county when but a child. Eight children survive her. The funeral services were held at the Myrtle Tree Church Wed, Rev N Y Mathews in charge.

Pg193 2/10/1910 Russell Comer died at his home in Concord Twp Tuesday Feb 8, 1910 after an illness of five years of cancer to the face. He was born Mar 7 1845 aged 64yaam1d. He was the s/o Phillip and Dicy Comer and was md to Miss Sarah PENCE Sept 27, 1865. He is survivied by a wife, two sons, four daughters and two sisters, Mrs Jas McBeth of Urbana and Mrs Jas T Kite of Millerstown. The funeral services were held today at the Baptist Church in Millerstown. The remains were laid to rest in Spring Grove Cem.

Pg200 5/5/1910 The most horrible accident occurred Tuesday at Donovan Hill south of Urbana, whien a north bound freight train carrying a trailer broke loose. It struck a passenger car, which was following close behind and death and destruction was the result. W H Ferguson , the motorman on the passenger car, of Springfield, and M M Orark was instantly killed. Grover PENCE of Millerstown had his shoulder broken and was badly cut up from the flying glass. She was md to Thomas Price Kite may 24 1882. To this union a daughter was born who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her departure a grief stricken husband, a nephew, Edjel Wiant, who has been in her home since his early childhood, and to whom she seemed like a mother, also three brothers, four sisters survive. They drove to court house and court house officials and outsiders dropped in--bride requested they leave-SHF CHAMBERLAIN, CLERK MAITLAND, SAM WOODS & JOHN PENCE remained. The bridal party adjourned to other room and above followed-the lady refused to be md until they left-they adjourned to another room and locked the door and was md.

She leaves a husband, three sons and five daughters. Burial was in Springgrove Cemetery.

His wife preceded him in her demise some ten years ago.

He was the son of DA VID and BARBARA PENCE, who have been dead for many years. He rod ELIZA McMORRAN, Jan 20,1842, living with her until Apr 1,1881, when she died. They have two children, a son, SOLOMON RUSSELL, who was killed in 1861, by the running away ofhis team ofhorses, and BARBARA E, who is now the wife of BENJAMIN SNAPP. On June 18, 1882, MR PENCE rod the widow PHOEBE NORTHCUTT , who still survives. The funeral was conducted, by Rev P H Murray. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Sunday.

Interment in Evergreen Cemetery .He was born on the farm now occupied by WILLIAM APPLE, and lived several years where his brother, CHRISTIAN died, until he removed to his fathers homestead south of town, where he ended his days. MR McMORRAN was md Aug 16, 1838 to MISS SIDNA WIANT , by which union was born three children, MARY, now tlie widow of WILLIAM H JONES, ELlZA, the widow of JOSEPHUS GEARHART and EMMA B, who died in infancy. He leaves only one brother. His brothers, CHRISTIAN and SAMUEL T and a sister, ELIZA PENCE having only lately preceded him. The remaining brother is JACOB, one our county commissioners.

Pg99 5/13/1892 Grandfather DAVID BEATY, SR, came to Ch Co, in the year 1806. He stopped in the wild woods on the land now owned by WILLIAM MERRITT .All he and his family owned was the clothes on their backs, a pack on the back of an old black horse and fifty cents in money. All hands went to work and chopped, dug and scratched for a living, and a scant one it was for a few years. I have often heard grandfather relate that they had to sift wheat bran through a sieve a second time and what passed through made cake to eat, and corn bread manufactured &om &ost bit corn, and no meat for a time. Father hired to work for JOHN PENCE, SR, at fifty cents a day. He lived on Nettle Creek, south of Westville. He bought a rifle with which he kept his family in wild meats such as deer, turkey and pheasants. That was the start of the BEATTY brothers in Champaign County. MRS PENCE was our oldest citizen, havmg lived on the fam1 she died on the past seventy years. She was a sister to the REV JOHN EPP ART, who died a number year ago. Her people were of the early settlers who come to possess this beautiful land when in its primeval wildness, and occupied only by the red man and his wild allies, the wild bear , the deer and the wild turkeys. MRS PENCE reared a family of five children, three of who are dead. Her remains were buried today at Myrtle Tree Cemetery, Rev Sherman officiating.

Pg 125 7/30/1914 After being confined to his bed but one day John C Norman died Firday July 24, 1914 being 71y6m2d born in Concord Twp Jan 22 1843. His marriage to Mary A PENCE took place on Mar 17, 1868. A son Charles, who died in infancy and a daughter Mrs McClellean Frank, were born to this union. Mrs Norman died about five years ago. The daughter, a grandson, J Warren Norman, a brother Dr L M Norman of Millerstown, and a sister M E Steiner of Kansas City, Mo survive. Gabriel and Rebecca Norman were the parents of the deceased. They were among the pioneer settlers of Concord Twp. Reb Alfred Ankeney conducted the funeral services from the home Sunday. Interment was in Springgrove Cemetery.

after an illness of four days. He was 90 years of age. He leaves nine children
and four sisters. The daughters are Mrs Maddox, Mrs Conrad of Urbana, Mrs
Doval and Mrs PENCE of Millerstown. The sons are Wesley and Robert of Urbana,
John Henry of Quincy, Andrew of Eris and Allen O of Piqua. The sisters are
Mrs Smith, Mrs Taylor of St Paris, Mrs Isabella Kite of Van Wert, and Mrs
Mahala PENCE of Urbana. The latter is in bad condition owing to a paralytix
stroke suffered Saturday. She is past 82 years of age. The body was taken
to the home of the son Robert on Monday and the funeral services were held
from the home on Tuesday with burial at Myrtletree Cemetery.

Pg170 8/17/1916 JASON PENCE one of the best-known residents of this lacality, was found dead in bed on ,Friday by his son, FAY PENCE. Death was due to heart trouble. MR PENCE was born two miles southeast of St Paris on Aug 28, 1844 and was nearing his 72nd birthday. He was the son of AARON and REBECCA PENCE. His entire life was spent on the same farm. On Jan I, 1872 he was married to SARAH M COLBERT and two sons FAY and JAMES were born to this union. His companion died onFeb 15,1909. As a member of Company I, 134thReg OVI, MR PENCE served in the Civil war from Mar 6, 1864 to Aug 31st of the same year, of which he was honorably discharged. Besides his two sons, eight grandchildren, one brother, IRVIN PENCE, and two sisters, MRS MARIA SNAPP and MRS ELLA ZIMMERMAN are living. Rev N Y Mathews conducted the funeral service from the St Paris Baptist Church on Monday. Interment took place in Springgrove Cemetery
Pg171 8/24/1916 A citizen is removed from St Paris; GEORGE LEAR SMITH passed away on Sunday. MR SMITH was a native ofPA, having been born in Doylestown, Bucks County, on Mar 11, 1847, he being in his 69th year. He was the youngest son of JOHN and SARAH SW ANN SMITH. His early life was spent at Bristol, PA, where his parents moved when he was three years old. The family came to Ohio where the father died. After his older brothers, JAMES, AUGUSTIS and JACK WATSON whom the family raised, enlisted in the Army during the Civil war. MR SMITH returned to P A with his mother and remained until the close of the war. Coming back to Ohio they located on a farm south of Conover. The marriage of MR SMITH to MARY LEE ofMiami County, took place Dec 21, 1871. In March of the following year they moved to St Paris, his wife died in 1894. On July 1, 1896 he united in marriage to MISS AMANDA R PENCE. Two sons were born the older, ALLEN having died nine years ago. The wife and one son CAROL, survive. The funeral was held Tuesday from the home in charge of Rev N Y Mathews. Interment was in Springgrove Cemetery.
