Society. One similarity in this family, aside from Williams burial record,
is that Rev . John Evilsizer, s/o John Evilsizer and Mary Peters, s/o Old
"Jakob" also married an Arnold, Mary Polly. Coincidence? This family may
have been related back in Germany, but they never left Cass Co, IN. And they
did not migrate until between 1860 and 1870.....over 100 years
later!

In the History of Carroll
County, there was an article on Grace's father, William A Pruitt . I do not
have copies of all pages, but have transcribed what I have. Page

is the wife of james T Evilsizer, of Wellsboro, Indiana. William A Pruitt,
father of these children, was reared in Carroll County and for forth years
has been an auctioneer and has practiced law. He resides in Flora, Indiana,
where his first wife died on march 1, 1895, at the age of forty-five years.
She was a devout member of the Desciples Church. William A Pruitt is a veteran
of the Civil War, having served in the 24th Indiana battery for a little
more than three years. At times he has served as justice of the peace. After
the death of his first wife, he was married to Rosa Jones. Mr Pruitt's paternal
grandfather was Pleasant Pruitt, who was a native of Pennsylvania and a pioneer
in Carroll County. He and his wife, also a native of Pennsylvania, spent
much of their time, however, in Howard County, being farmers by occupation.
The grandfather died in Flora Indiana at the age of seventy-two years; his
wife died early in life. William A was the only child born to this marriage.
After the death of his first wife, Pleasant Pruitt married again and by the
second marriage had three sons, Sampson, Harry and Joseph. Mr Pruitt's maternal
grandparents were natives of ohio and pioneers in Burlington Township, Carroll
County, Indiana. Their children included, Elizabeth J Leeka, of Fairmont,
Illinois; Sarah Aylsworth, William R Timmons, Ezekiel John, Maria A Pruitt
and Cyrus Timmons. Born on the little farm of forty acres owned by his father
near the town of Darwin, Edward E Priott moved with his parents into the
town of Darwin, where the father ran a small store for a time. Later the
father took up auctioneering. Edward E Pruitt grew to manhood in Darwin attending
the country schools at Burlington. He taught school for seven years and during
the last four years in the school room, studied law preparatory to attending
law school. Subsequently, he was a student of law in the office of Odell
& Ryan and graduated from the law department of Indiana University in
1893, but was admitted to the bar .....

Don L-76, of 6036 W County Road 370 N., died at 4 P.M. Saturday in LaPorte
Hospital. Mr. Evilsizer was retired from the Michigan City School Corp. and
was former owner of Don's Truck Stop in The Pines and of the Petroleum and
Equipment Co. He was born March 17, 1911 in Garrett, Ind. On Feb. 20, 1943,
in Fort Lewis, Wash., he married Ethel Stearns. She survives along with two
sons, James Robert of Dubuque, Iowa, and Garry Lee of Fort Madison, Iowa;
several grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Smith of Lafayette, Ind., and
Ellen Mae Gerbrick of LaPorte; and a brother, Mirwood Francis of LaPorte.
He was a member of the First Church of God and the LaPorte Veterans of Foreign
Wars. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Services will be 1 P.M.
Tuesday in Haverstock Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 9 P.M.
Monday and until the time of services Tuesday. Burial will be in Pine Lake
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church building
fund.
This is the father of Garry
Evilsizer who spent 20 years in the Oklahoma State Prison. His story is on
the "Evilsizer's in the Law" page. This is not a descendant of "Ol Jacob",
as his ancestor Jacob Evilsizer (ironic, huh?)b 1808 came from Germany in
1865 and settled in Cass Co, Indiana.

was a twin who died at birth, or if this entry recorded in

Evilsizer:
Garry Lee Evilsizer (and
six other inmates of the Fort Madison, Iowa prison) were convicted of contempt
of court by the Lee County (in the extreme southeast corner of the state),
Iowa District Court on June 30, 1982, for failure to testify before the Lee
County Grand Jury. Evilsizer and the others claimed fear of reprisals if
they testified. The Iowa Court of Appeals upheld the convictions (and six
month sentences). Criswell, Misner, Goff, Evilsizer, Wainwright, Frazer and
McGhee v. Hendrickson, 344 N.W.2d 255 (Iowa 1983) 11/29/1982 Convicted of
2nd degree murder. 1989 Transferred to Oklahoma State
I have been corresponding
with Garry for about 5 years. He was originally sent to prison for Burglary.
He was only to serve 2-5 years. While in prison in Iowa, he was in the "wrong
place "at the "wrong time" and was a witness to a murder that occurred in
the laundry room. He refused to testify for fear of his safety, and in doing
so was found guilty of "conspiring" . He was to serve 20 years additional
time and was moved to Oklahoma State penitentiary for security reasons. He
had asked me to find his family roots. In doing so , I found a completely
different line of Evilsizers who immigrated to Cass Co, Indiana. Ironically,
The immigrant was also named Jacob, b c1808 in Germany and came to America
after his son William was born in 1828. Garry's story has a happy ending
insomuch, as he fell in love with his attorney. He was released from prison
in November of 1998 and they moved to somewhere in the orient where she continues
her practice, and we hope Garry is living "happily ever
after"

LaPorte- Ellen GERBRICK,
71, of 1900 Andrew Ave, LaPorte, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 1993
at Fountain Terrace Nursing Home, LaPorte. The funeral will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday at the Haverstock Funeral home, LaPorte. Burial will be in Pine
Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 Wednesday and Thursday until
time of service. Mrs Gerbrick was born April 20, 1922 in LaPorte, the daughter
of Harry and Grace Pruitt Francis. On April 27, 1967, in LaPorte, she married
Richard C Gerbrick, who died March 28, 1985. Surviving are two daughters,
Joy Lake, Westville and Joan Mier, Merrillville; four grandchildren; one
great grandchild; and one brother, Mirwood Francis. Memorial contributions
may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney
Foundation.
