The Kirby Family of York County, Virginia

Thomas Kirby bought a 450 acre plantation in Poquoson, Virginia, in 1642 and died there in 1668. He is thought to have come from England in the 1630s. His exact origins, however, have not been positively identified, even though several respected genealogists, including Noel Currer-Briggs, Patrick Palgrave-Moore and Diana Spleman, worked on the problem for many years.

Further research by Diana Spleman showed promise of identifying his origins, but was discontinued. Therefore the long offered $5,000 Challenge is now withdrawn.
