Anna Marie Gould
(19) was born
Ana Gult in Austria-Hungary 30 September 1902, to Francis Joseph Gult (165)
and Barbara Elizabeth
Garatva (166). She, along with her mother and brother
Joseph (228), came to the United States in 1906, arriving
in New York aboard the ship Blucher out of Hamburg, Germany.
They passed through Ellis Island before arriving in Allegheny
County, Pennsylvania. Anna's father was not on the ship manifest;
it is not known when and how he arrived in the US.
Anna's father disapproved of her dating a protestant when she
began seeing Wesley Evans (18). Her sister, Marie (230),
remembers Anna being beaten with a belt by her father severely
enough to draw blood when he found out.
Anna married Wesley R. Evans (18)
22 November 1921, in Wellsburg,
West Virginia. Since Anna was Roman Catholic, they married again
according to Catholic rites in Saint William Church, East Pittsburgh,
PA, on 27 November 1928. Together,
they had four children: Wesley Riggs,
Jr (5), Robert James (20), Anna Marie (21),
and Thomas (257). They lived at 7412 Irvine St., Swissvale,
PA for 5 months, then at 1407 Electric Ave., North Braddock,
PA for four years. The children were apparently born there. They
then lived for about six months at 2644 Braddock Ave., Swissvale,
then to 504 Howard St., East Pittsburgh, PA for about one year
and finally to 503 Grandview Ave., East Pittsburgh.
Anna and Wesley were
divorced 26 February 1936. Anna later married Arthur C. Pellow
on 5 September 1947 in Fredricksburg, Marryland. Arthur accumulated
large debts and drank heavily. In the divorce complaint in 1949,
Anna claimed that Arthur had tried to drive off Mount Washington
in Pittsburgh, then tried to drive off a dead end street. Anna's
sister claimed that Arthur beat Anna up over the Christmas holidays,
giving her two black eyes, and that he drank too much. The divorce
was granted 13 July 1949. Anna later married Robert Wilson, whom
she divorced. She married Albert M. Frankwich, with whom
she was living when she died.
Anna made a living as a hairdresser, and also owned some rental
property from which she derived some income. She died 25 Feb
1976 in Pittsburgh, PA, and is buried in Jefferson Memorial Park,
Pleasant Hills Boro, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
