He also owned and ran his own wagon on this same route, he delivered m erchandise to the local merchants of London and Pittsburg. Jason marri ed Emeline Woods on Dec. 25, 1865. ------

Info provided on documents from Jean Cottongim. Generation Chart in file. She shows Jason born Dec 19, 1844 and died June 27, 1936. I think I wi ll take her word for the correct dates because she was working on genealo gy prior to 1986 and I believe she had documentation.
Jason B. Evans was better known and generally called "Uncle Jason". He w as twice married. His first wife, four daughters and one son preceded h im to the grave. At the time of his death, Jason B was survived by a wif e, three children and approximately seventy five grand and great-grandchil dren.
He joined the Liberty Baptist Church in 1866. In 1896 when East Pittsbu rg Baptist Church was constituted, he was one of the charter members and r emained a faithful member until his death. He was ever ready with his tim e, his money and his means for the support of his church, his pastor, evan gelist, sick, poor and needy, or anyone in distress.
He had been feeble for a few years before his death, but would take his ca ne and go to church until only a few months before his death. (compil ed by the Laurel County Historical Society. Edited by Shirley McCowan 3-19 -1937 (copy in my files

ILLIAM GARRISON SOUTHERLAND:April 1, 1892 Excerpt from Sentinel-Echo Local Items
MARRIED - At Slate Lick Church in this county, (Laurel), on Sunday March 2 7, by Rev. W. T. Bryant, Mr. William Southerland and Miss Hannah Evans. [h ave copy of this item]
Grandpa Southerland only had one arm and I was told that he shot his arm o ff while hunting squirrel. He had a stub just above the left elbow. I r emember knitting a closed mitten like sleeve to keep it warm in the winte r. I remember meeting him several times when Grandma & Grandpa Poston liv ed at Flicks in Natrona Heights. (Birdville back in those days.) In 19 50 Mom visited him at the home of Aunt Van Lear Ann's house in Jellico, Te nn and in 1952 my brother Bill visited him there also. When Grandma & G randpa Poston celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1950, it stat ed in the news paper article that good wishes also came from Mrs. Poston 's father, 88-year-old William Southerland of East Bernsteadt. KY. Grand pa Southerland lived in Cincinnati, Ohio with his daughter Cora from somet ime in the mid to late 1950's until he died in 1961, but his body was retu rned to Kentucky where he is buried in the Litton Cemetery in East Bernsta dt, Kentucky.
Grandpa Southerland remarried after the death of Hanna and had six childr en to his second marriage. The 1920 census shows him living in Pittsbur g, Laurel County., KY with his 2nd wife Annie, Elbert & Ann Van Lear (chil dren from his 1st marriage) and a new daughter, Cora, age 3 1/2. The 19 30 census shows him living in East Bernstadt, Laurel County., KY with 5 ch ildren Cora, Nora, Bill Jr, Ella and Roy. (4 new since last census) but h is wife Annie Vaughn Southerland died in 1927. A son, Howard, born Mar ch 30, 1919 & died in 1919.
Grandpa Southerland married Martha Rednour August 17, 1929. She had 5 ch ildren by her previous husband, Sarah, Amos, Orbin, unknown girl and unkno wn boy. (this info provided to me by an e-mail from Evelyn Dalton)
Southerland is a Choctaw Surname. Supposedly the 5th generation back fr om Ethel Irene Southerland, that would be 4th generation from William Garr ison Southerland, the wife is an Indian Princess, the daughter of a Choct aw Chieftain in Tennessee. (This was always told to me by my mother.) B ut according to William Southerland Sr. his father or his father's wife w as a full blooded Cherokee Indian.
This info was given to me by his son William Jr in Sept 2003 in Kentucky.

But the prayer cane to an end and the honeymoon couple went on to est ablish a home in Jellico, Tenn. In the years that followed they liv ed in nine different states.
