Here are some Bundocks we can all be proud of. So, we have criminals in our family. Many of these so-called criminals were imprisoned on frivolous charges, like bringing an umbrella into a church. For the two serious criminals in the family, don't think of them as criminals...think of them as Bundock ancestors who added, uh, color to our heritage. Or not.

1. Robert Bundock and his brother Richard Bundock, involving their sister Mary Bundock, living in Black Notley:

Scope and Content INQUISITION as above, upon the view of the body of John Catterall of Black Notley husbandman. The jurors say that Richard Bundock as above, 8 Feb., broke into the house of the said John and assaulted him with an axe worth 8d., and gave him three mortal wounds, one on the right side of his head 2 inches long and half-an-inch deep, another the same measurements on the left side of his head, a third with a knife worth 1d., 2 inches long and wide into his brain, and holding him, struck him in the throat and gave him a wound an inch long and 2 inches deep. Whereof he instantly died. And Robert Bundocke knowing of the felony helped Rich. to bury John Catterall etc. Richard pleads not guilty; guilty; judged. Robert Pleads not guilty; Not guilty.

Scope and Content INQUISITION taken at Black Notely, parcel of the Liberty of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 19 April, before Thomas Bedell esq., Coroner of the said Liberty upon the view of the body of Mary Bundocke of Notley aforesaid spinster. Shelton, formerly committed as a disorderly person, is to be well whipped and sent by pass to Gilston in Hertforsdhire. John Bickmore, formerly committed as a disorderly person, is to well whipped and sent by pass to "Esterford Kelvedon." Frances Jacob, formerly committed for having a bastard child, is to remain in custody for a twelvemonth after the date of her commitment. Scope and Content Taken before Henry Pert esq. INFORMATION of Sarah Purnell of Stock who saidth that on 1 March last she delivered Ann wife of Richard Bundock in the parish of Buttsbury of a male child who knowing her husband did live from her, they having been parted divers years, demanded of her who was the father. She at first answered it was her husband's, but soon after she said it was Ezechiel Somes; his child and no other man's, who was her husband before God. Mark.
10 March. Information of Elizabeth Harris of Buttsbury who saith that Somes did frequent Ann Bundock's house at all seasons and did furnish her with such provisions as she stood in need of. Mark.
26 March. Examination of Ann Bundock who saith that her husband hath not had knowledge of her since he parted from her about six years since in which time she hath had two children and saith that Somes that was the father of both, and hath often sworn that if her husband should go beyond seas or should die he would marry her and make amends.
