Ibiza

We jetted off to Ibiza for a dose of glorious sunshine in 1999. The weather was great - a high of 33 degrees and I think the lowest it got to was 23 degrees. Some days it was quite windy but it gave us a chance to give the "tan development" a breather.

We stayed in San Antonio at the Hotel Hawaii. A 15 minute casual walk would get us into the main area to do some shopping, get something to eat and, of course, get that drink down us! If it was too much to walk it was about 4 minutes in a taxi.

We opted to have a sea view which was great as we could look right over the bay without straining out necks! We also got a good view of the sunset. We didn't venture to any of the clubs (Es Paradis, Eden etc) as we are not into the clubbing scene, we preferred to spend our evenings and Pesatas at "Joe Spoons" which is a great Irish pub including live signing by Sean and Joe. It didn't open until 9pm and we found that sometimes we were the first at the door!!!! We opted to sit outside and adopt the "people watching" position. It was so good that by a couple of days the bar people would see that our glasses were empty and bring us out another drink (cheers to Siobhan and Rafael). During the day we lapped up the sunshine conveniently located outside one of the bars (Bar M - not far from the KFC and opposite Es Paradis) on a sun lounger covered in factor 60 (for the noses and other delicate areas), 25 to get started, 6 on the brown bits then down to 4 on the last couple of days.

We had to go on the bungee rocket. Brian had been on it before - he didn't have to drag me on it although it took several days to pluck up the courage! You sit in a kind of roll cage with seats like those on a roller coaster. They strap you in securely - remove flip flops, glasses and empty your pockets . The roll cage is secured to two pieces of what can only be explained as bungee elastic bands somehow attached to two huge poles. These get made ready for pinging - hint: don't go for a countdown - and then well, what what can I say, you have a reverse bungee jump. It is absolutely fantastic. We paid 10,000pts (around £40) for us both to go on the rocket, a t-shirt each and a video to remember the going up (I think I had my eyes closed), the going down, the going up and the final little bounce followed by the "pull" down to earth!
