1860 Nebraska census lists Hiram living with John S Minnick (notice name
spelling is different), living in dwelling 352. The census lists Hiram's
real property at $6000 with his brother John S having no real property
but $3500 in personal wealth. Neither brother is indicated as being
married in 1860. Both Hiram and John S are listed with a birth place of
Pennsylvania. Note that the 1880 census below lists Hiram as being born
in Virginia.

Dorothy E. Worthington, 96 years of age, died Saturday, November 10, 2007
at the Homestead House in Beatrice. She was born September 24, 1911 at
Auburn, Nebraska and graduated from Auburn High School. She married Verle
Worthington on June 4, 1940 at Falls City, Nebraska and they lived in
Auburn until moving to Beatrice in 1942. She worked as a sales lady at
Miller’s Clothing Store for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member
of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice and a former member
of the Ladies Division of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce. She loved
animals, especially cats, and enjoyed collecting baskets and red glass.
Survivors include one sister, Maxine Frederick of Lincoln, Nebraska; many
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and
great-great-nephews; special friend Henry Penner of Beatrice. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mary Alice O’Neil Cowell;
her husband Verle who died on February 9, 1977; one brother and four
sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at
the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Rev. Cindy Karges officiating.
Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has
been established to the Beatrice Humane Society with the funeral home in
charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M.
Monday until the time of the service on Wednesday. A guestbook for
signatures and messages of condolence is available online at
www.foxfuneralhome.net. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the
arrangements.
