Welcome to the Bergersen Family Information page!

My grandmother was Dagny Louise Bergersen (1889 - 1979).  She was the daughter of Gunnar Bergersen (1841 - 1915) and Marthine Lovise (Martina Louise) Stengel (1852 - 1931).  Both of my grandmother's parents were born in Norway.  This website presents various information related to these Norwegian roots.

Gunnar and Martina Bergersen emigrated to America from Hamar, Hedmark, Norway, in the 1880's.  Gunnar was born in Ottestad (near Hamar in Stange district), while Martina was born in Vang (also near Hamar).  Gunnar's ancestors can be traced to nearby Stange and Elverum, while Martina's can be traced to various places in the valleys called Østerdalen and Gudbrandsdalen in east-central Norway.  Her Stengel ancestors can be traced to Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.  I am preparing a separate webpage for them.

The following links will take you to various pages that explore this rich Norwegian heritage...

Utdrag av slegtregister over familien Skjeset - Imislund - Ovren - Rösum og Slette
(Summary of the genealogy of the family Skjeset - Imislund - Ovren - Røsum and Slette)

Norsk version (1 MB pdf)

English version (235 KB pdf)

Known in our family as the "First Record," this genealogy report was prepared by my distant relatives, Alf Christophersen (1894 - 1918) and his brother, Georg Christophersen (1896 - 1980).  The above links will open Adobe Acrobat "pdf" files.  You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view them.  The Norwegian (norsk) version of the document contains non-searchable scanned images of the original manuscript.  The English version is searchable and much smaller in size.
This manuscript served as a starting point for much of my Norway genealogy research.  A large amount of new informaion has been found in the years since this manuscript was written.  Nevertheless, it still stands as a valuable outline of our family history.
