extract accurate data. (more time than I originally thought) Over the next several months
I will also add to it what is available from the IGI libraries, and message data bases on
the web. Once done I hope it will continue to grow as others provide data.

- "William ARMISTEAD of Virginia was the son of Anthony ARMISTEAD of
Kirk Deighton, Yorkshire, and
- his wife Frances THOMPSON, whom he married in 1608.
- The son, William, was baptized in All Saints, Kirk Deighton (only church
in the parish), 3 Aug 1610.
- He came to the Colony about 1635 and died before 1660.

- First born of 12 children (7 sons 5 daughters) to Anthony Armistead and
Frances Thompson
- On record:
- 10 baptism dates, 6 burial dates for some of Wm's siblings. NO RALPH!
- No record of birth, batism or death for any Ralph Armistead in Yorkshire.
- Wm. was married to Ann Ellis of Giggleswick Yorkshire in the very year
the final child was born to Wm's parents.
- Wm's baby sister is called Rachel, baptised 1632.
- LDS files list Ralph Armistead born 1619 in Kirk Deighton.

9. Capt Anthony6 Armistead (William5,
Anthony4, Roger3, John2, Robert1) was born
1645, and died Oct 26, 1726 in Elizabeth City Co. VA. He married Hannah Ellison,
daughter of Robert Ellyson and Susannah Gerrard. She was born Abt. 1641 in James City
County, VA, and died Dec 19, 1728 in Elizabeth City Co. VA.
Notes for Capt Anthony Armistead:
Sheriff of Elizabeth City in 1684, and Burgess in 1699.
Capt. Armistead, son of an emigrant, resided in Elizabeth City County
and was a member of Gov. William Berkeley's Court Martial in 1675 to try the Bacon
Insurgents of Bacon's Rebellion. He was a Burgess (Sessions of September 24, 1696,
November 2, 1720 and May 9, 1722) and a member of the committee to report the revision of
the laws which were approved by the General Assembly. He was he was justice of the peace
and captain of horse in 1680 and one of the committee in 1700 to report a revision of the
laws which were approved by the General Assembly in 1705, and a Capt. of James City County
Militia in Virginia.
He is listed in Register Of Qualifying Seventeenth Century Ancestors of
"The Jamestown Society"

- Message: Valerie: I just did a quick look-up for you, and discovered that
there is an article in the William and Mary Quarterly, reproduced in "Genealogies of
Virginia Families, vol. IV," Genealogical Publishing Co., 1982, p. 410, by Mrs. A.E.
Whitaker entitled "The Sheltons." In it, she mentions that "In 1681 Wm.
Shelton had a grant of 150 acres in Gloucester Co., Va., and on December 10, 1698, he
married Hannah Armistead, daughter of Capt. Anthony Armistead, who was born in Elizabeth
City Co., in 1648." She doesn't give the parentage of this William Shelton, but she
does provide a great deal of information about the Shelton family. The first emigrant was
James Shelton, who came to Jamestown, Virginia with Lord Delaware in 1610. In addition,
she states that according to Greer's "Early Immigrants," a Fr. Shelton and a
Richard Shelton, two brothers, came to Virginia in 1638. It's not known whether they were
related to the first immigrant James Shelton. While this doesn't give you exactly what you
were looking for, I hope it provides a start

Elizabeth City Co, and died 1666. She married (3) Capt Cristopher Wormeley.

- Anthony Armistead, son of the Immigrant, had a son,
- 83Anthony who married Elizabeth Westwood (not Elizabeth Lee).
- They had two sons, 169Westwood Armistead and 170Anthony Armistead.
- She goes on with a quotation from Tyler who says:
- "Captain William Armistead was, doubtless, a son of 170Anthony, and
brother of 204Anthony A., 205Robert A., 206Westwood A. , 207Alexander Carver A."
- This last statement was erroneous.
- Capt William Armistead of Clark Co., AL, was not a son of 170Anthony A.
