Notes
General:
The Bishop family is said to have its roots in Holland. As tradition has it Thomas and Claborn were sons of Dutch immigrants. According to Hugh Joel Bishop Sr ., Thomas and Claborn's father may have been a Jim (James) Bishop . Thomas Bishop was born in South Carolina in 1800. Thomas had settled in Pike County Georgia by 1827, near the Pike/Upson County line in the community called Jugtown.

Jugtown was and is a small community located near the Pike/Upson County line in west central Georgia. It lies immediately south of the Pine Mountain chain, near its eastern extremity. The nearest town is Meansville, approximately 5 miles to the north. Thomaston is some 8 miles to the south. Several major pottery families are well known to the area, they are the Bishop , Brumbelow, Stewart, Salter, Brown, and Rogers families. In the 1850 census Thomas is listed as a farmer, but he is said to have been one of the first potters in the Jugtown community. Tradition has it that the Bishops practiced their craft back in their homeland Holland. Thomas Bishop married Lidia Brumbelo Sept. 8, 1819, in Jackson County Georgia. Lidia was born in North Carolina in 1799.

Claborn Bishop was listed as a Tax Receiver for three terms in Cobb County, Georgia 1845-1848. Claborn was married to Nancy Brumbelo sister to Lidia Jan. 27, 1828, in Upson County, Georgia. Claborn and Nancy had seven children; the youngest was Ozello Bishop born April 27, 1844, died June 27 1898, she married William Washington Reynolds Sept. 18, 1859. Nancy Brumbelo was the daughter of Edward Brumbelo. Edward Brumbelo is listed in the 1790 census of Anson County, North Carolina.

Edward's second marriage was to Catherine BANDY on 11 October 1833.

       Children:
                1. Judge Edward Isaac Brumbelow
                2. Elizabeth Brumbelow
                3. Sarah Brumbelow

Notes
General:
Edward first appears in Richmond County Virginia records in 1706. Edward was a carpenter, and built the Richmond County Courthouse.

Edward Brumlow sued Edward Barrow and there are at least six entries of delays. The case was dropped after two years in 1708. One may assume that the appointment of Edward Barrow as sheriff in 1708 might have had something to do with the withdrawal of the suit.

In 1709 Edward purchased 180 acres of land in Richmond County, Virginia from John Aloway. He also had real estate transactions in 1708 and 1714. The Richmond County records of 1702-1724 show that Edward Brumlow was indebted to Gabriell Alloway for 667 pounds of tobacco by court order dated June 19, 1708

On February 2, 1714 Edwards wife Mary granted power of attorney to Thomas Thorne. In another legal document of this same date Edward Brumlow was released for certain legal obligations. Evidently Edward became incapacitated even though his daughter Sarah was born after this date. Edward Brumlow evidently died in 1717. After the death, his wife reverted to her maiden name. In a Richmond County Virginia deed dated June 23, 1749 Mary McGuire sells household items equivalent in value of 2000 lbs of tobacco as compensation of her daughter Sarah Brumbelow for care over an eight year period. Her care may have extended beyond this time for Sarah did not marry until age 39 in 1756. Her devotion and care for her mother explains the lateness of her marriage.
