Mrs. Ruth Wright, 46, died Friday May 3 in a Summers County hospital after a short illness. Born September 8, 1938, in Summers County, she was the daughter of Faye Ward of Summers Street Hinton and the late Edward H. Ward. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Junior Ward. Mrs. Wright was a resident of Hinton and a member of the Laurel Creek Baptist Church near Sandstone. Survivors include four sons, Ronnie, Billy Ray, and Kevin of Hinton, and Randy Wright of Pineville; four daughters, Carolyn Foster of Hinton, Debbie Woods of Beckley, Marsha Conner of Cool Ridge and Sherry Ward of Hix; one brother, Charlie Ward of Hinton; six sisters, Millie Nelson of Ballengee, Helen Brumit of Hinton, Deloris Young of Pluto Rd., Hinton, Jewell Whittaker of Jumping Branch, Mary LaPlante of Glen Morgan, and Ethel Tyler of Covington, Va. and 17 grandchildren. Services were held Monday May 6 at 2 pm at the Laurel Creek Baptist Church at Sandstone with the Revs. Eddie Johnson and Lovell Williams officiating. Burial followed in the King Cemetery near Sandstone. The body was at the Ronald Meadows Funeral parlors in Hinton. The body was taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

FOREST -- Edgar Minter Washburn Sr., 83, of Forest, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at his home.He was born in Patrick County on July 19, 1920, a son of James Emmett Washburn and Stella Minter Washburn. Washburn was a partner in Washburn Brothers Construction Co. before his employment with the Aerofin Corp. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert C. Washburn, M. Akers Washburn and J. Francis Washburn, and two sisters, Helen W. Spencer and Pauline W. Wiggington. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Tatum Washburn; two daughters, Delois "Dee" Washburn and Teresa G. Washburn, and one grandson and two granddaughters, all of Forest; two brothers, John Washburn of Ridgeway and Troy Washburn of Knoxville, Tenn.; six sisters, Hazel W. Gunter and Rachel W. Gunter, both of Martinsville, Lorene W. Smith of Bassett, Reva W. Hopkins of Stuart, Vivian W. Turner of Danville and Bernice W. Fulcher of Ridgeway; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Monty Fox and the Rev. Hazel Washburn Gunter, 91, of Martinsville, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Henry County on Sept. 22, 1912, to Emmett Washburn and Stella Minter Washburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert Washburn, Edgar Washburn, Francis Washburn and Akers Washburn; and two sisters, Helen Spencer and Pauline Wiggington. MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Garles Rupert "Mike" Watts, 88, of 152 Spring Air Lane, the husband of the late Mary Alice Shelton Watts, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Watts was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Stokes County to the late Richard and Mary Gunter Watts. He retired from Spencer's Inc. and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include five daughters and three sons-in-law, Betsy and Ray Easter of Dobson, Mary and Dennis Speaks of King, and Frankie Cave, Dawn and James Hall and Linda Johnson, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley Watts and Tom and Brenda Watts, all of Mount Airy; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Wagoner of Mount Airy; and two special friends, Iva Dale Jackson and Louie Taylor, both of Mount Airy. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Watts was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Monica Johnson; two sisters, Hattie Wagoner and Pauline Edwards; and five brothers, Curtis Watts, Elmer Watts, Hillery Watts, Bob Watts, and Charles Watts. Princeton – Robert L. Wright, 69, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1992, in a Princeton hospital, following a long illness. Born Jan 31, 1923, at Sandstone, he was the son of the late John Robert and Lillie Ellen Gunter Wright. Mr. Wright had lived most of his life at Princeton, was a disabled truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lena Phillips Wright and a grandson, Matthew Everett Hill. Kevin was a construction worker for Whittaker Diversified Incorporated. Kevin enjoyed life and cherished doing things for many people. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, young or old. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was of the Baptist faith. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Shan and Stella Faye Ward; paternal grandparents, Robert and Lillie E. Wright; a nephew, Ivan Wayne Gill Jr.; and a cousin, Mark David Long. Wednesday, July 7, 1999, in a Princeton hospital following a short illness.
Born May 10, 1921, in Madison, he was the son of the late Edward Price Young
and Leona Barker Young Mitchem. Mr. Young was a retired machinist for Gunter's Electric Inc. and a former auto body mechanic for Bay's Buick in Beckley. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Beckley, and a former member of the Beckley Moose Lodge. Mr. Young served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Gunter Young; a son, George Edward Young and his wife, Sharon, of Beckley; a daughter, Rebecca Jean Young of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Marianna Tolos and her husband, William, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandchildren, April and Phillip Young of Beckley. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Dr. David Carrico and Pastor Rollan Roberts officiating. Entombment will
