Notes for Glenna Ruth Ward Wright: Mrs. Ruth Wright, 46, died Friday May 3 in a Summers County hospital after a short illness. Born September 8, 1938, in Summers County, she was the daughter of Faye Ward of Summers Street Hinton and the late Edward H. Ward. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Junior Ward. Mrs. Wright was a resident of Hinton and a member of the Laurel Creek Baptist Church near Sandstone. Survivors include four sons, Ronnie, Billy Ray, and Kevin of Hinton, and Randy Wright of Pineville; four daughters, Carolyn Foster of Hinton, Debbie Woods of Beckley, Marsha Conner of Cool Ridge and Sherry Ward of Hix; one brother, Charlie Ward of Hinton; six sisters, Millie Nelson of Ballengee, Helen Brumit of Hinton, Deloris Young of Pluto Rd., Hinton, Jewell Whittaker of Jumping Branch, Mary LaPlante of Glen Morgan, and Ethel Tyler of Covington, Va. and 17 grandchildren. Services were held Monday May 6 at 2 pm at the Laurel Creek Baptist Church at Sandstone with the Revs. Eddie Johnson and Lovell Williams officiating. Notes for Edgar Minter Washburn Sr : FOREST -- Edgar Minter Washburn Sr., 83, of Forest, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at his home.He was born in Patrick County on July 19, 1920, a son of James Emmett Washburn and Stella Minter Washburn. Washburn was a partner in Washburn Brothers Construction Co. before his employment with the Aerofin Corp. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert C. Washburn, M. Akers Washburn and J. Francis Washburn, and two sisters, Helen W. Spencer and Pauline W. Wiggington. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Tatum Washburn; two daughters, Delois "Dee" Washburn and Teresa G. Washburn, and one grandson and two granddaughters, all of Forest; two brothers, John Washburn of Ridgeway and Troy Washburn of Knoxville, Tenn.; six sisters, Hazel W. Gunter and Rachel W. She was born in Henry County on Sept. 22, 1912, to Emmett Washburn and Stella Minter Washburn. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Airy Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Willie Ruth and Bobby Dollyhigh; Louise and Rev. Deward Scott all of Mt. Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Wagoner; Richard “Skinny” and Verna Lee Wagoner all of Mt. Born Aug. 30, 1953, at Hinton, he was a son of the late William Dallas and Pauline Elizabeth Bragg Wood Jr. Joe had lived the early part of his life in Hinton and attended Hinton High School. He worked as a drill blast foreman for Sanders Constructors Co. of Belmont, N.C., as long as health permitted. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Vickie Wood. Survivors include two sons, Roger Lee Wood and wife, Angie, and Christopher Dale Wood and wife, Lesia, all of Concord, N.C., former wife, Carolyn Fuller Wood of Concord; and he was the proud grandfather of Vicky, Alex, Sarah, and Makinna Wood. Wright. She was Aunt Dovey to everyone she met and treated everyone like family. She was always happiest when she was cooking a big meal and had a house full of family and friends to share the meal with her. She also loved singing, and playing the piano or organ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Okley R. Bennett; two brothers, Robert L. Wright and Jennings B. Wright; and a sister, Doris F. Lilly Strickler. Those left to cherish her memory include two brothers, Richard L. Wright and wife, Marge, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Billy K. Kevin was a construction worker for Whittaker Diversified Incorporated. Kevin enjoyed life and cherished doing things for many people. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, young or old. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was of the Baptist faith. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Shan and Stella Faye Ward; paternal grandparents, Robert and Lillie E. Wright; a nephew, Ivan Wayne Gill Jr.; and a cousin, Mark David Long.
