MISC. NOTES-- In this last column, passengers were asked Country of citizenship/Last residence/destination for a series of Ire/Ire/US

answers. Unless noted otherwise, these are to be assumed. Also all men without another occupation were listed as "Labourer" and women as "Spinster."

The US government began requiring passenger lists of all ships coming into the U.S. from 1820 on. The names of all passengers were extracted and placed on cards for alphabetizing. These were photographed and put on to microfilms as an "INDEX TO PASSENGER LISTS". Another set of microfilms exists with the actual passenger lists of each ship (PASSENGER LIST films). The numbers of these films are online at www.nara.gov for those who wish to borrow them through public libraries/ Inter Library Loan Program, or through the Family History Centers of The Mormon Church. Note that the films are grouped by port of arrival and by groupings of years. These are decisions you must make to use them.

I believe the six McGlincheys arriving on the Forest City on April 8, 1862 are my ancestors. The LIST films are grouped by arrival dates onto films covering periods of several months each. Unfortunately, The film for that date which should have had the Forest City, did not have it. Those things happen. It was a massive job. I am lucky to have found them on the other copy of the records held by the Mass. Archives.

These are all the McGlincheys listed on the INDEX film as having entered Boston (only Boston) during the years 1848-1891. I hope they can be of use to people.
