Madalyn Embree, half sister to my father, Guy Embree. I only found her a few months ago, but loved her from the time I saw her there at the nursing home. She died last night of a massive heart attack on July 9, 2009. I will have more about her in the future, this is all I can handle today.
~MADALYN'S POEM~
You carried your scars inside your heart,
But kept a smile on your face.
You struggled to learn just where you belonged,
But you finally found your place.
A lonely childhood thinking that no one cared,
Nightmares of past times woke you up scared.
Missing your daddy you loved with all your heart,
Knowing he did what he thought was best, and so you had to part.
Life went on and childhood passed, with pain and sorrow eased.
You were a young happy bride, then you had a son, you couldn't have been more pleased.
But marriages don't always last, and you did what you had to do,
You had to fight, had to survive, the only person to depend on was you.
You were happy in the mountains, free as a butterfly from all life's pain,
But once more, you were thrown into a spin, life would never be the same.
From the hospital to the nursing home, sharing a tiny room with someone else.
Always encouraging the others, never worrying about yourself.
I found your ad in the Citizen, I was surprised and couldn't believe,
So early the next morning, I had to come and see.
I didn't even know what you looked like now, a nurse had to be my guide,
There in the doorway of Doug's room, you looked up at me and smiled.
Something in my heart just told me I had found a lifelong friend,
Something told me that you and me would be tied together until the end.
But I never expected it to be over so soon, my heart feels like it's dying.
Everytime I picture you, again I break out crying.
You used to look at me with that twinkle in your eye, a look I loved to see,
You'd say, "now are you sure you want to hang out with a crazy old lady like me?"
I always answered just the same, "if you're crazy then I am, too",
We'd laugh and compare our notes on what others thought we should do.
And now my heart is breaking, like someone broke it in two,
Because I loved and lost a crazy old lady like you.

MADALYN AND RUIE
Madalyn Embree married Ruie Crage Carter on June 8, 1961, at the age of 23, she was b. March 17, 1938-9? according to what she wrote on picture. Ruie was 43 when they married, b. July 19, 1914, he died Oct. ? at age of 71 if these statements are right. They did not stay married for very long, had a son, Jackie. Mrs. Marie Foster came and took Madalyn to Berea Hospital and she signed papers and gave Jackie away, never knew where he went. She said they were starving and she wanted her baby to live. She said she never stopped loving him and wondering where he was.
MADALYN AND JACKIE, HER SON
Sadly, although Madalyn was very proud that she had bought herself a stone and also pre-paid for her funeral, she is not buried at her stone. Apparently, her family didn't know about it, so they buried her next to Mrs. Marie Foster Moody and husband. When I am able to handle the sorrow, I will visit her for picture of that spot.
