9. William WHIDDON
was born in 1700 in Norfolk Co., VA.14
He died about 1779 in Nash Co., NC.14,15
According to the listing, William Whiddon was included in the tithables list,
for Norfolk County, Virginia for the years of 1730-1734 in the Western Branch
Precinct, and in the 1736 list for the Ferry Point to Great Bridge Precinct.
"These lists of tithables filed with the Clerk of Court for the years 1730-1750,
consisted of about 10,000 names, including all residents of Norfolk County, the
town of Portsmouth and the borough of Norfolk who were Male Persons of the Age
of Sixteen Years and upwards, and all Negroe, Mulatto, and Indian Women of the
same Age, except Indians Tributary to this Government, and Indians, except as
before excepted".*
Also included in these tithables lists were his Cousin, Capt. John Whiddon, a
John Whiddon, Junr. for the year of 1730 and a Thomas Whiddon.
William moved from Virginia to Edgecombe Co., NC and in March 1763 witnessed
a neighbors deed. In 1777 his area of Edgecombe county was cut off to form Nash
Co. where he was living at the time of his death.**
