Robin Robert Elsinger was born on 7 October 1957.1,2 He was the son of Robert M. Elsinger and Nancy Rosholt.1 Robin Robert Elsinger married Elisabeth Schmidt on 12 August 1978 at Washington Co, WI.3,4 Robin Robert Elsinger died on 13 December 1997 at Hustisford, Dodge Co, WI, at age 40.2
The following newspaper article appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co, WI on 15 December 1997.
Slain Hustisford tavern owner Robin Elsinger made the rounds weekly at numerous Hartford-area bars, where he was known as a jovial, well-liked person to other tavern owners and bartenders who expressed shock that anyone might want to kill him.
Washington County Sheriff Jack Theusch said Sunday that his department was following up on leads in the case, but he declined to be specific.
Those who knew Elsinger, 40, were speculating that robbery may have been a motive.
Pete Denson, bartender at Ruby's Redneck Refuge in Rubicon, said Elsinger's bar, R and B's Tappers, had been robbed before.
Elsinger's mother, Nancy Elsinger, said the tavern was robbed just two or three weeks ago. "They broke down the back door and took the safe," she said.
Her son told her he lost $3,000 and business papers in the theft.
Nancy Elsinger recalled a trustworthy son who would help anybody with a problem. "I would tell him he was too trusting all the time," she said.
John Schaefer Jr., a bartender at R and B's, declined to speak to a reporter Sunday. His father, John Schaefer Sr., said his son was probably the last one to see Elsinger alive. He said his son had closed the bar early Saturday morning and then stayed at a friend's home.
Schaefer said his son saw Robin before he left at Elsinger's apartment at the bar. Schaefer said his son talked to authorities Sunday.
Elsinger's body was found at Beaver Dam and Nenno roads in the Washington County Town of Addison about 5:10 a.m. Saturday by a person on the way to work.
Elsinger was dressed only in jeans, T-shirt and shoes and was thought to have been dumped from a vehicle. The body was still warm when it was found.
Elsinger's bar, with a sign still advertising a free drink every time the Packers scored Sunday, was closed, with a card on the door reading, "We'll miss you Robin."
Bryan Morey, manager of the Pour House tavern in Hartford, had known Elsinger more than 15 years. He said most people around the Hartford area knew Elsinger.
"I have nothing to say but good things about the man," Morey said. "It makes no sense. He was one of those people, a tavern owner, who went out and made rounds and socialized with everybody. I would estimate that one-third of the people in this area knew who he was."
Morey last saw Elsinger about a week ago.
"He was talking about going into a partnership with a friend and buying a bowling alley up north," Morey said.
"He had bought the tavern in Hustisford from the same friend. He was just an all-around fun guy. He was a big deer hunter, a big fisherman. He liked to go up north. He was an extremely friendly person."
He said Elsinger was recently separated but remained amicable with his former wife. She could not be reached for comment.
"I can't possibly imagine why anyone would want to kill him," Morey said. "He had nothing to do with drugs; he didn't have a bunch of money; he didn't flaunt it. If he was out in a bar partying with people, he was the life of the party. He wasn't messing with any people's lives. This is completely shocking to me."
Elsinger's mother said she spent a sleepless night Saturday thinking about her youngest son.
"I sat in the chair last night and I got no sleep," she said. "You think about whether he suffered.
"I hope and pray they find out who did this." He was buried on 16 December 1997 at Summit Cemetery, Summit township, Waukesha, WI.2

The following newspaper article appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co, WI on 17 December 1997.
Revenge for an alleged sexual incident is believed to be the motive in the shooting death of Hustisford tavern owner Robin Elsinger, authorities said Tuesday.
Bail was set at $250,000 for each of two suspects arrested Monday evening. The two men appeared Tuesday at a brief hearing before Washington County Circuit Judge Leo Schlaefer.
District Attorney David Resheske said that he anticipated first-degree homicide charges against the two men, identified in court as Kraig Hoepner, 18, of Neosho in Dodge County, and Kelly Bodoh, 20, of the Town of Hartford.
"Based upon statements made last night and the investigation, they were placed under arrest," Resheske told the court. "Mr. Bodoh implicated himself and Mr. Hoepner as being involved."
Charges are expected to be filed during an 8:30 a.m. hearing Thursday, also before Schlaefer.
Sheriff Jack Theusch said that Bodoh, believed to have fired the fatal shots, gave a statement following his arrest.
"He felt he was sexually assaulted a couple months ago by the victim," Theusch said. "On Friday night or early Saturday morning, the victim supposedly approached the suspect (Bodoh) in a suggestive manner" at R and B's Tappers, the tavern operated by Elsinger, 40. Bodoh allegedly enlisted the help of the other suspect and planned to kill Elsinger, Theusch said.
Theusch said Elsinger was shot twice in the head at close range, allegedly while in Hoepner's car near Highways 83 and 175. The body was dumped in the Town of Addison about one mile east of the Dodge County line.
A passer-by found Elsinger's body about 5 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities impounded Hoepner's car and another owned by Bodoh. The Hoepner vehicle and a small-caliber handgun were taken to the state Crime Laboratory for examination Tuesday, officials said. Authorities said the break in the case came after someone who had been interviewed by investigators earlier mentioned the two men as possible suspects.
The two were arrested at their jobs late Monday. An attempt-to-locate bulletin had been issued by the Sheriff's Department, including the description of the Hoepner vehicle.
Bodoh allegedly told authorities he returned with Hoepner and caught up with Elsinger about 3 or 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Elsinger is believed to have gone willingly with the two men in the car, Theusch said.
Resheske said he was impressed with the investigation.
"They've done a good job so far," he said. "I'm very pleased with what the Sheriff's Department has done."
Investigators are still working to locate two items that belonged to Elsinger. A leather Packers jacket and a Packers wallet or checkbook were believed to have been taken from Elsinger, although officials emphasized that robbery was not the motive in the slaying.
Anyone finding such items is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Family members described Elsinger as an easygoing, friendly guy who liked to hunt and fish. Elsinger recently separated from his wife, Beth, with whom he had purchased the tavern in June.
Two area attorneys appeared on behalf of the suspects at the court hearing Tuesday. Public Defender Paul Czisny represented Hoepner, arguing that his client had "strong ties to the community."
He described Hoepner as a high school graduate who lived with his mother, works for Serigraph Inc. in West Bend and has no adult or juvenile criminal record.
Attorney Matthew Mayer represented Bodoh and said his client is a lifelong resident of the area, employed and living with his grandparents. Bodoh was arrested at Signicast in Hartford.
"There's no reason to assume he would not appear . . . at the appropriate times as ordered," Mayer said, arguing for reasonable bail.
Schlaefer found probable cause that the two suspects should be held and, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations, set the bail.
