He married Katherina Fruendorf, daughter of Joseph Frauendorf and Katherina Obermeier, on 24 November 1888 at St. Andrew's Church, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.¹ Louis (Ludwig) Sterr and Katherina Fruendorf appeared on the census of 16 June 1900 at LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.² Louis (Ludwig) Sterr died on 9 February 1930 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 68.³

Louis Sterr, 68 years old, died on Sunday, after having been ill for more than a year. Death was caused by dropsy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Andrew's Catholic church, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Fr. H.C. Stehling will officiate. The deceased, Louis Sterr, was born June 12, 1861, in LeRoy. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sterr. On Nov. 24, 1888, he was married to Miss Katherine Fraundorf, at LeRoy, and for some years they lived on a farm in town LeRoy. For 23 years they lived in town Lomira and six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Sterr came to this city, where they have resided since that time. Surviving the deceased are the widow, and the following children, Mrs. Max Elsinger, of this city; Mrs. Mike Kohlmannsperger, Mrs. Ed. Graunke, Mrs. Alvin Foeckler, and Mrs. Vernon Reible, all of Milwaukee; Alvin Sterr, living near Farmersville, and Ben Sterr, of this city. Mr. Sterr is also survived by 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Willie Sterr, Benfort, N.D., and Geo. Sterr, of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Bachhuber of this city; Mrs. Emma Ewald, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Mary Burelbach, of Beaver Dam.¹

     Olive Sterr was born on 1 July 1888 at LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.^1,2 She was the daughter of Louis (Ludwig) Sterr and Katherina Fruendorf. Olive Sterr married Maxmillian Elsinger, son of Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann, on 28 August 1906 at LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.³

The marriage of Mr. Max Elsinger of this city and Miss Oliva Sterr of Leroy was solemnized in the St. Andreas Cath. church at Leroy last Tuesday forenoon, Rev. Pischery officiating. The young couple was attended by the Misses Anna Kraus, Marie Albrecht and Lillie Sterr, and the Messrs. W. Elsinger, F. Dietrich and Benno Bachhuber. The young couple will reside in this city.

Olive Sterr appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, enumerated 7 April 1930, as the head of the household but listed as married and Max is not on the census. It was also reported that the family owned a radio and their home, which was valued at $5000.. Her children Arnold Mathias and Hilary Andrew were listed as living with her.⁴ Olive Sterr died on 16 August 1982 at Hope Nursing Home, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 94.^1,2 She was buried on 18 August 1982 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.

     Maxmillian Elsinger was a machinist. He was born on 3 August 1882 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI.^2,3,4 He was the son of Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann.¹ Maxmillian Elsinger was baptized on 13 August 1882 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.³ He married Olive Sterr, daughter of Louis (Ludwig) Sterr and Katherina Fruendorf, on 28 August 1906 at LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.⁵

In 1956 Max and Olive celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The following article appeared in the Mayville News on September 6, 1954:

Mr. and Mrs. Max Elsinger celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening at the John Guetschow Jr. residence on John St. Their grandson, A1c Robert Magyar, who has been stationed in Japan for nearly two years, arrived home on Saturday afternoon in time to join the festivities. Among those present were Mrs. and Mrs. Alois Foeckler, Mrs. Lillian Kollmansberger, Elsie Graunke, and Bill Billodeau, all of Milwaukee; Messrs. and Mmes. Walter Naber and Barbara, Arnold Weiss and Carol, Felix Elsinger and family, Gibert Weber, David Magyar, Max Elsinger Jr., also Fritz Ende, John Guetschow Sr., Dick Komp, Donald Roll, LaVon Elsinger, and Max Magyar. Carol Weiss furnished the music with her accordion. Horseshoes and cards were played and a delicious lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Elsinger received many beautiful gifts.

Maxmillian Elsinger died on 1 January 1972 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 89.^6,2 He was buried on 4 January 1972 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.^2,6

Max Elsinger, 88, retired owner and operator of the Elsinger Machine Shop, died Jan. 1 at his home at 374 Furnace St. Born Aug. 3, 1883, at St. Lawrence, he was a son of Wolfgang and Helen Elsinger. He married Olive Sterr on Aug. 28, 1906, at LeRoy, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Max Elsinger jr., Juneau, and Hilary, at home; one daughter, Mrs. John Guetschow, Mayville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Elsinger was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services were conducted at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in St. Mary's Catholic church, the Rev. Carroll A. Gunther officiating. Koepsell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and the body was in state Monday afternoon and evening. The parish rosary was held at 8 p.m. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery.

     Maxmillian Andrew Elsinger was born on 18 May 1907 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI. He was the son of Maxmillian Elsinger and Olive Sterr. Maxmillian Andrew Elsinger married Alvina Susan Anna Thieme, daughter of Frank Thieme and Katherine Schutz, on 26 November 1931 at Immaculate Conception Church, Juneau, Dodge Co, WI.^1,2 Maxmillian Andrew Elsinger married Clara Clausen on 9 October 1971 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Oconomowoc, Waukesha Co, WI.³ Maxmillian Andrew Elsinger died on 30 March 1984 at Hartford Memorial Hospital, Hartford, Washington Co, WI, at age 76.³ He was buried on 2 April 1984 at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Juneau, Dodge Co, WI.³

     Elsie Elsinger was born on 7 July 1908 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI. She was the daughter of Maxmillian Elsinger and Olive Sterr. Elsie Elsinger married Mathias Magyar on 4 February 1926 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.^1,2 Elsie Elsinger and Mathias Magyar were divorced before 3 May 1949.³ Elsie Elsinger married John Guetschow on 3 May 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.³ Elsie Elsinger died on 11 May 1998 at Fond du Lac Co, WI, at age 89.⁴

     Arnold Mathias Elsinger was born on 19 November 1909 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI. He was the son of Maxmillian Elsinger and Olive Sterr. Arnold Mathias Elsinger appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Mayville, Dodge Co, WI in the household of his mother Olive Sterr, occupation listed as laborer at radiator factory.¹ Arnold graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1936 with a bachelor's degree in engineering.² Arnold Mathias Elsinger married Alice Nora O'Brien, daughter of John O'Brien and Catherine Mahoney, on 11 November 1950 at St. Mary's Church, Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.³ Arnold Mathias Elsinger died on 9 October 1951 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 41.

Probe Started In Shooting of Mayville Man
Arnold Elsinger, Engineer At Metals Plant, Found Dead In Yard
     Arnold Elsinger, 42, chief engineer for the Mayville Metal Products company, was found dead in the rear yard of his residence there shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday. He had been shot through the head. Coroner Robert Edwards, Dodge county, said that he is conducting an investigation into incidents leading to Elsinger's death, which appeared accidental. Sheriff Hubert Schwantes said at Juneau today that Elsinger's body was found by his wife and a neighbor woman after they heard a shot. The metal company executive died instantly from a head wound inflicted by a shotgun found near his body. Services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Koepsell funeral home at Mayville and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's church in that city, the Rev. John E. Braskey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arnold Elsinger was born Nov. 19, 1909, at Mayville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Elsinger, and was married Nov. 11, 1950 to Miss Alice O'Brien of Eden. He attended Mayville High school and the University of Wisconsin school of engineering. He was employed by the Consolidate Vultee at San Diego, Calif., and at Fort Worth, Texas, prior to becoming associated with the Mayville Metal Products company four years ago. Mr. Elsinger last week had been appointed chief engineer for the Mayville concern. He was a former member of Mayville city council. Surviving are his widow; parents; two brothers, Max, Jr. and Hilary, and a sister, Mrs. John Guetschow, Mayville.

Hilary Andrew Elsinger appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Mayville, Dodge Co, WI in the household of his mother Olive Sterr.² Hilary Andrew Elsinger died on 22 December 1977 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 65.^1,3 He was buried on 26 December 1977 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.¹

     Alvin Elsinger was born on 19 April 1914 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.¹ He was the son of Maxmillian Elsinger and Olive Sterr. Alvin Elsinger died on 30 January 1916 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, at age 1.¹ He was buried on 3 February 1916 at Mayville, Dodge Co, WI.¹

     Alice Nora O'Brien was born on 15 September 1919 at Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI. She was the daughter of John O'Brien and Catherine Mahoney.¹ Alice Nora O'Brien married Arnold Mathias Elsinger, son of Maxmillian Elsinger and Olive Sterr, on 11 November 1950 at St. Mary's Church, Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.²

Newlywed Couple Travels In South. Alice N. O'Brien Bride of Arnold M. Elsinger. Planning to reside at Mayville upon their return from a honey-moon trip to Kentucky and Georgia are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold M. Elsinger who were united in marriage at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11 in St. Mary's church at Eden. The bride, formerly Alice N. O'Brien, is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John O'Brien of Eden and the bridegroom a son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Elsinger, Sr. of Mayville. Mrs. Elsinger is physical education instructor at the Mayville High school and her husband an engineer for the Mayville Sheet Metal company. Presented in marriage by her brother, J.T. O'Brien, the bride was attired in traditional white satin, her gown featuring a wide fan-shaped train. Her fingertip length veil of illusion was gathered to a beaded tiara. The bridal bouquet of red roses was centered with a white orchid. Miss Mae O'Brien was maid of honor in a frock of tiger rose color designed with lace bodice and full skirt of satin. Roses and pompons were in the bandeau she wore in her hair and in the bouquet she carried. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, H. Elsinger. Ushering guests at the church were George M. O'Brien and Conrad Faust. Immediate families of the young couple were entertained at breakfast at Takodah clubhouse followed by a reception for 300 at the Hobnob.

Alice Nora O'Brien died on 4 May 2003 at Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co, WI, at age 83.³

Alice N. (O'Brien) Elsinger, 83, formerly of 242 Bischoff St., passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born on Sept. 15, 1919, in Eden, a daughter of the late John and Kathryn Mahoney O'Brien. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Arnold M. Elsinger at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eden. Mrs. Elsinger was a physical education teacher at Marian College and for the Mayville and Fond du Lac School Districts. She was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Patrick's Church, Wisconsin Education Association, Retired Teachers of Fond du Lac, St. Rose of Lima Foresters and the Shamrock Club, who declared her "Irish Person of the Year" in 1991. She was an avid bowler and golfer. Survivors include one son, Jack (LuAnn) Elsinger of Stevens Point, and her two grandchildren, Robin and Daniel. Preceding her in death were her husband, Arnold, in October of 1951 four brothers and two sisters. Services: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at noon Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Holy Family Parish-St. Patrick's Church. The Rev. Timothy O'Brien, her nephew, and the Rev. John Radetski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Eden. Visitation: From 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Zacherl Funeral Home, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Thursday, May 8, 2003, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to St. Mary's Springs High School. She was buried on 8 May 2003 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.⁴

     John O'Brien was born on 22 June 1863 at Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co, WI.¹ He married Catherine Mahoney on 25 October 1905 at Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.²

The following biographical information appeared in the book Fond du Lac County Wisconsin: Past and Present by Maurice McKenna published in 1912

     Enterprising and progressive in his business affairs, John O'Brien, the proprietor of a general mercantile store in Eden, has by the exercise of those qualities won a prominent place for himself in mercantile circles of this community. He was born in Fond du Lac on the 22d of June, 1863, and as the name indicates is of Irish descent.

     John O'Brien spent the first ten years of his life in the city of Fond du Lac and then went with his parents to the farm which afterward remained the family abode. His education, which had been begun in the city schools, was continued in the country schools near his father's home, and he remained a pupil therein until about seventeen years of age. He then entered Mann's Commercial College of Fond du Lac but at the end of three years was compelled to leave school and return home, as he was the eldest in the family and his assistance was needed in the operation of the home farm. He remained with his father until the latter's death, after which he took charge of the farm, continuing in its active operation until 1909. In 1906 he turned over the management of the home farm of three hundred and eighty acres to hired help and has since that time given his undivided attention to his mercantile interest.

     In 1906 Mr. O'Brien was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Mahoney, a daughter of James Mahoney, of Eden, who came to Fond du Lac county in 1846. To this union four children were born, of whom three are living, Mary Katherine, John T. and Helen Elizabeth. James Patrick, the first born, died in 1907 in infancy. In politics Mr. O'Brien is a democrat, but he has never sought ot figure in public life, his interests centering in his home and business. He is a man of business capacity and possesses a spirit of enterprise and progress which, guided by sound common sense, has brought him to a position of prominence among the successful and representative men of Eden. Attractive personal qualities have made him popular with a large circle of friends, and he is universally respected and esteemed.³

The following newspaper article appeared in the Campbellsport News, Campbellsport, Fond du Lac Co, WI on 23 March 1916.

     A deal was consummated last Saturday whereby the John O'Brien general store business and elevator at Eden, was traded for the Julius Grahl farm near the village of Eden. Mr. O'Brien values his business at $13,000 and Mr. Grahl receiving the equivalent of $32,000 for his farm, receiving the difference in cash from Mr. O'Brien. This farm is known as the Peter Hearity farm and is considered one of the finest pieces of property in Fond du Lac county.

     Mr. Grahl will hold an auction on April 1st, when Crosby and Reilly will offer for sale the personal property on the place. Mr. O'Brien and Mr. Grahl will each take possession of their new properties on April 4th. This deal was engineered by John Rohlfs of Eden and the real estate agency of Crosby, Reilly & Ninneman, of Cascade.⁴

     Catherine Mahoney was born on 5 July 1878 at Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.¹ She married John O'Brien on 25 October 1905 at Eden, Fond du Lac Co, WI.² Catherine Mahoney died in 1948.

     Wolfgang Elsinger was born on 10 December 1844 at Giesing, Oberbayern, Bavaria.² He was baptized on 11 December 1844 at Giesing, Oberbayern, Bavaria; In the register for Wolfgang's baptism, his father is listed as Johann Elsinger, a carpenter.² He was the son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch. Wolfgang Elsinger emigrated in July 1847 along with his parents George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, having departed from Bavaria. Wolfgang Elsinger appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of his parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.³ Wolfgang Elsinger married Helena Zimmermann, daughter of Frank Zimmermann and Ana Maria Huber, on 23 November 1872 at Polk, Washington Co, WI.^1,4 Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 18 June 1880. Their children Anna Margaretha, Joseph Frank, Herman and Wolfgang John were listed as living with them.⁵ Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lomira, Dodge Co, WI, enumerated 13 June 1900, reporting that Wolfgang had immigrated in 1847, had been in the United States 53 years and was a naturalized citizen. Also that although he could read and write, he couldn't speak English. His occupation is listed as farmer and he and Helena owned their farm with a mortgage.. Their children Anna Margaretha, Herman, Wolfgang John, Anton, Michael and Rosa were listed as living with them.⁶ Wolfgang Elsinger died on 19 August 1914 at Lomira, Dodge Co, WI, at age 69.¹ He was buried at St. Andrew's Cemetery, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.⁷

     Helena Zimmermann was born on 9 September 1851 at Schleisingerville, Washington Co, WI.² She was the daughter of Frank Zimmermann and Ana Maria Huber.¹ Helena Zimmermann married Wolfgang Elsinger, son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, on 23 November 1872 at Polk, Washington Co, WI.^3,4 Helena Zimmermann and Wolfgang Elsinger appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 18 June 1880. Their children Anna Margaretha, Joseph Frank, Herman and Wolfgang John were listed as living with them.⁵ Helena Zimmermann and Wolfgang Elsinger appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lomira, Dodge Co, WI, enumerated 13 June 1900, reporting that Wolfgang had immigrated in 1847, had been in the United States 53 years and was a naturalized citizen. Helen is listed as being a widow.⁷ Helena Zimmermann died on 10 July 1932 at age 80.² She was buried on 13 July 1932 at St. Andrew's Cemetery, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.^8,2

     George Elsinger was born on 11 March 1809 at Hansenried, Oberpfalz, Bavaria.^1,2 He was baptized on 12 March 1809 at Stamsried Parish, Stamsried, Oberpfalz, Bavaria.² He was the son of Johann Baptist Elsinger and Elisabeth Pucher.¹ George Elsinger married Maria Barbara Rensch, daughter of Andreas Rensch and Barbara Urban, on 5 May 1840 at Giesing, Oberbayern, Bavaria, having moved there from Hansenried while still single.³ In the marriage register, George's name is listed as Johann Baptist and his occupation is day laborer.³ George AND Maria emigrated in July 1847, just prior to the unsuccessful German Revolution of 1848, along with their children Catherine and Wolfgang having departed from Bavaria. During the time George and Maria lived in Bavaria, it was required of all those seeking to emigrate to notify the local government of the intent to leave and to place a notice of their intention in a local publication, or public area, for creditors. Their names were found in a list of emigrants from Upper Bavaria published in the book "Zeitschrift Fuer Bayerische Landesgeschichte". George (Georg) is listed as a "zimmermann" or carpenter and was in possession of 1000 florin or guilders. Their place of origin is given as Giesing which is a town located just outside of Munich.

It is uncertain at this point at which port they landed. However, their 3rd child, George, was baptised at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Broadway and Pine, in Buffalo, New York on 7 Aug 1847, just 3 weeks after he was born at sea on 16 Jul 1847, which would lead one to believe that they may have come through Quebec, down the St. Lawrence River, into Lake Ontario, and then on to Buffalo. By 1850 when their fourth child was born, the family was living in Washington County, WI.

George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 13 July 1860, reporting the family owned real estate valued at $1200 and personal property valued at $250. Their children Catherine, Wolfgang, George, Joseph, Barbara and Eva were listed as living with them.⁴

George was naturalized on 13 October 1863 at West Bend, Washington Co, WI,, completing the process that he had started on 5 Apr 1852 when he filed a petition for naturalization before the clerk of circuit court for the county of Washington.⁵ He left a will on 14 October 1896 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI. He died on 28 November 1900 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI, at age 91.⁶ He was buried on 1 December 1900 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹

     Maria Barbara Rensch was baptized on 21 December 1812 at Neukirchen-Balbini Parish, Neukirchen-Balbini, Oberpfalz, Bavaria.² She was born on 21 December 1812 at Fronau, Oberpfalz, Bavaria.^1,2 She was the daughter of Andreas Rensch and Barbara Urban. Maria Barbara Rensch married George Elsinger, son of Johann Baptist Elsinger and Elisabeth Pucher, on 5 May 1840 at Giesing, Oberbayern, Bavaria, having moved there from Fronau while still single.³ Maria AND George emigrated in July 1847 having departed from Bavaria. Also listed on the passenger list was, Catherine and Wolfgang. During the time George and Maria lived in Bavaria, it was required of all those seeking to emigrate to notify the local government of the intent to leave and to place a notice of their intention in a local publication, or public area, for creditors. George (Georg) is listed as a "zimmermann" or carpenter and was in possession of 1000 florin or guilders. Their place of origin is given as Giesing which is a town located just outside of Munich.

It is uncertain at this point at which port they landed. However, their 3rd child, George, was baptised at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Broadway and Pine, in Buffalo, New York on 7 Aug 1847, just 3 weeks after he was born at sea on 16 Jul 1847, which would lead one to believe that they may have come through Quebec, down the St. Lawrence River, into Lake Ontario, and then on to Buffalo. By 1850 when their fourth child was born, the family was living in Washington County, WI.

Maria Barbara Rensch and George Elsinger appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 13 July 1860, reporting the family owned real estate valued at $1200 and personal property valued at $250. Their children Catherine, Wolfgang, George, Joseph, Barbara and Eva were listed as living with them.⁴ Maria Barbara Rensch appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, in the household of Joseph Elsinger and Anna Fritz.⁵ Maria Barbara Rensch died on 10 January 1900 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI, at age 87.⁶ She was buried on 13 January 1900 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.⁶

The following obituary appeared 16 January 1900 in the Dodge County Pionier, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI:

"The wife of the aged settler, George Elsiner of the Town of Addison, born Barbara Rensch, died Wednesday evening of last week, at age 88 years and one month. She leaves behind three sons, Wolfgang, Georg and Joseph Elsinger and three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Krebs, Mrs. Eva Jungbauer and Miss Catharine Elsinger. Father Schwaiger presided at the funeral Saturday. Burial was at St. Lawrence Church Cemetery. A large gathering was present at the rites."

There is some discrepancy as to Barbara's birth, death and burial dates. Records at St. Lawrence Catholic Church say date of death is 11 Jan 1900 and burial is 13 Jan 1900. Death Certificate says birth date is 21 Dec 1812, death date is 10 Dec 1899 and date of burial permit was 11 Jan 1900. Tombstone reads "Born 21 Dec 1813, Died 10 Jan 1901". Obituary says date of death was 10 Jan 1900 and burial was 13 Jan 1900.^7,1,6

      Catherine Elsinger was also known as Katharina Elsinger. She was born on 12 September 1842 at Giesing, Oberbayern, Bavaria.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch. Catherine Elsinger emigrated in July 1847 along with her parents George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, having departed from Bavaria. Catherine Elsinger appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of her parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.³ Catherine Elsinger died on 24 December 1908 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI, at age 66.^1,4 She was buried on 28 December 1908 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹

The following obituary appeared 1 January 1909 in the Hartford Times-Press, Hartford, Washington Co, WI:

Miss Catherine Elsinger, an old resident of the town of Addison, died last Thursday evening from cancer, at the age of 66 years. Miss Elsinger was born in Germany and came to this country with her parents in the early days of the county, and settled on the old homestead in the town of Addison where she was living at her death in company with her nieces, daughters of Joe Elsinger. She is survived by two brothers, George of the town of Addison and Wolfgang, of Knowles. She has also two sisters living, one of whom lives in Milwaukee and the other in Dakota. Miss Elsinger was well known to the residents in that part of the county, and was very highly respected by them. The funeral was held Monday at St. Lawrence.

     George Elsinger was born on 16 July 1847 at sea.² He was the son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.¹ George Elsinger was baptized on 7 August 1847 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo, Erie Co, NY; Baptismal record states that his parents were from Giesing in Bavaria and that the Godfather was a George Reichart.³ He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of his parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.⁴ George Elsinger married Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther, daughter of Carl Gunther, on 25 October 1870 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.^2,5 George Elsinger and Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 21 June 1880. His children Charles, Magdelena, George J., John and Henry John were listed as living with him, as was Anna's father Carl Gunther.⁶ In December of 1899, George purchased an 80 acre farm from Gustav Schlagner for $7300 and took possession of it in May of 1900.⁷ George Elsinger died on 17 July 1917 at age 70.²

The following obituary appeared 20 July 1917 in the Hartford Times, Hartford, Washington Co, WI:

George Elsinger an old resident of the county, died at his home in this city Tuesday morning at a quarter to eight, from a complication of diseases. Mr. Elsinger had been failing in health for several months, but had been confined to his bed only a few days. The deceased was born July 16, 1847, in New York. His parents came immediately to Wisconsin, settling in St. Lawrence where his entire life was spent until four years ago when he came to this city to reside. Mr. Elsinger was married Oct. 25, 1871, to Magdalene Guenther, at St. Lawrence. Mrs. Elsinger survives her husband with the following children: John, of Loyal; Henry of Soum Mour, Calif; Severen of the town of Hartford; Joseph at home; William of Richfield, and Rev. Francis Elsinger, assistant to Rev. Hartman at St. Kilian's, this city. Lena, (Mrs. Jos. Miller) and Clara, (Mrs. A. Schuh) of St. Lawrence; Elizabeth, (Mrs. Barney Katzfey) of Schleisingerville. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Barbara Krebs of Milwaukee and Mrs. Michael Stetzer of Tyndall, SD. The funeral will take place tomorrow, Saturday morning at St. Lawrence Catholic church. The services will be conducted by his son, Rev. Father Francis Elsinger, assisted by Rev. Fathers Hartman and Maas. The deceased was a man who was always held in the highest respect by everyone. He was a kind and devoted husband and father, and a good neighbor and helpful friend, always willing and ready to do a good deed for his neighbor. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends.

     Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther was born on 4 October 1848.² She was the daughter of Carl Gunther.¹ Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther married George Elsinger, son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, on 25 October 1870 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.^2,3 Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther and George Elsinger appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 21 June 1880., as was Anna's father Carl Gunther.⁴ Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Eagle, Waukesha Co, WI, in the household of Francis William Elsinger.⁵ Ana Maria Magdalena Gunther died on 5 February 1933 at age 84.² She was buried after 5 February 1933 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.²

     Mary Elsinger was born in April 1850 at WI.¹ She was the daughter of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.¹ Mary Elsinger died before 1860.²

     Joseph Elsinger was born on 17 October 1851 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI.¹ He was the son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch. Joseph Elsinger appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of his parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.² Joseph Elsinger married Anna Fritz on 8 April 1880 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.^1,3 Joseph Elsinger and Anna Fritz appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 18 June 1880, along with his sister, Eva, and his mother, Maria Barbara. His occupation was listed as farmer..⁴ Joseph Elsinger died on 25 June 1906 at St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI, at age 54.⁵ He was buried on 27 June 1906 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹

     Anna Fritz was born on 7 September 1858 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI.^2,3 She married Joseph Elsinger, son of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, on 8 April 1880 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.^2,4 Anna Fritz and Joseph Elsinger appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, enumerated 18 June 1880, along with his sister, Eva, and his mother, Maria Barbara. His occupation was listed as farmer..⁵ Anna Fritz was buried on 22 April 1904 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.² She died on 22 April 1904 at Addison township, Washington Co, WI, at age 45.³

The community was pained to hear of the death of Mrs. John Elsinger, of St. Lawrence, who died at an early hour last Friday morning, April 22, 1904, of smallpox. The disease was discovered a few days previous by Dr. Muentzner, of Allenton, who was called there. Mrs. Elsinger had been to Milwaukee with some of her children and upon her return were taken sick. Ten of the children have the disease and a strict quarantine has been established by the town board of health. The burial of Mrs. Elsinger was held at 8:30 o'clock Friday evening in order to avoid any possible spread. The death of Mrs. Elsinger is a hard blow to the family and regretted by her many acquaintances. She was a most estimable lady and well-liked by everyone in the community. It is believed that no further deaths will result, which is earnestly hoped.

Mrs. Joseph Elsinger died last Friday morning at her home in St. Lawrence from smallpox at the age of 43 years. The deceased, the former Anna Fritz, was born in the Town of Addison. She was survived by her husband and twelve children. Her burial took place on the day of her death and was private because of the nature of her illness.

Barbara Elsinger appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of her parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.² Barbara Elsinger married Joanis Augustinus Krebs, son of Joanis Krebs and Katharine Emich, on 28 January 1873 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.³ Barbara Elsinger died on 25 December 1926 at St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI, at age 72.⁴ She was buried at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.⁵

     Joanis Augustinus Krebs was born circa 1848 at WI.¹ He was the son of Joanis Krebs and Katharine Emich. Joanis Augustinus Krebs married Barbara Elsinger, daughter of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, on 28 January 1873 at Hartford, Washington Co, WI.² Joanis Augustinus Krebs died on 22 May 1895 at St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.³ He was buried at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.³

     Eva Elsinger was born on 31 March 1857.¹ She was the daughter of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch. Eva Elsinger was baptized on 14 April 1857 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹ She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI,, in the household of her parents, George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch.² Eva Elsinger appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI, in the household of Joseph Elsinger and Anna Fritz.³ Eva Elsinger married Michael Setzer, son of Michael Setzer and Ana Maria (?), on 29 June 1880 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.⁴ Eva Elsinger died circa 1945 at Tyndall, Bon Homme Co, SD.^5,6

     Michael Setzer was the son of Michael Setzer and Ana Maria (?). On 29 June 1880 Michael was living in Bonham Co, Dakota.¹ He married Eva Elsinger, daughter of George Elsinger and Maria Barbara Rensch, on 29 June 1880 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.²

     Frank Zimmermann was born on 4 October 1818 at Germany.¹ He married Ana Maria Huber, daughter of John Huber. Frank Zimmermann died on 24 May 1903 at Freedom, Outagamie Co, WI, at age 84.¹ He was buried on 25 May 1903 at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom, Outagamie Co, WI.¹

The following obituary appeared 26 May 1903 in the Dodge County Pionier, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI:

Franz Zimmermann, a resident of Segole (sic), Wis., died yesterday at age 80. He was the father of Mrs. Wolfgang Elsinger, who lives west of Knowles. Mrs. Elsinger and her son Max journeyed there this forenoon to attend the burial which will be tomorrow.

     Ana Maria Huber was born on 16 August 1816 at Germany.¹ She was the daughter of John Huber.¹ Ana Maria Huber married Frank Zimmermann. Ana Maria Huber died on 10 January 1894 at Freedom, Outagamie Co, WI, at age 77.¹ She was buried on 11 January 1894 at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom, Outagamie Co, WI.¹

     Anna Margaretha Elsinger was born on 9 December 1873 at St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.^1,2 She was the daughter of Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann.¹ Anna Margaretha Elsinger was baptized on 11 December 1873 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.² She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI in the household of her parents, Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann.³ Anna Margaretha Elsinger appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lomira, Dodge Co, WI in the household of her parents, Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann.⁴ Anna Margaretha Elsinger married Johan (John) Ruhland on 16 October 1906 at St. Andrew's Church, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.^5,6

The following wedding announcement appeared in the Mayville News, Mayville, Dodge Co, WI, on 23 October 1906:

"Mr. John Ruhland and Miss Anna Elsinger, both of town Leroy were united in marriage at the St. Andreas church in Leroy last Tuesday, Rev. Pischery officiating."

Anna Margaretha Elsinger died on 8 July 1944 at Dodge Co, WI, at age 70.¹

     Johan (John) Ruhland married Anna Margaretha Elsinger, daughter of Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann, on 16 October 1906 at St. Andrew's Church, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.^1,2

     Joseph Frank Elsinger was born on 2 March 1875 at St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹ He was the son of Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann. Joseph Frank Elsinger was baptized on 6 March 1875 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, Washington Co, WI.¹ He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Addison township, Washington Co, WI in the household of his parents, Wolfgang Elsinger and Helena Zimmermann.² Joseph Frank Elsinger married Clara M. Youngbeck, daughter of Xavier Youngbeck and Margaret Welsch, on 22 November 1905 at Dodge Co, WI.³ On 12 September 1918 Joseph was living in Knowles, Dodge Co, WI.⁴ He and Clara M. Youngbeck appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Lomira, Dodge Co, WI, enumerated 10 April 1930, reporting the family owned their home valued at $5000 and also owned a radio. Joseph's occupation was listed as a carpenter in construction work. Their children Felix Theodor, Almond Joseph and Reuben M. were listed as living with them.⁵ Joseph Frank Elsinger died on 22 March 1954 at Dodge County Hospital, Oak Grove, Dodge Co, WI, at age 79.⁶

Joseph Elsinger, 79, a life-long resident of this area, died Monday night at the county hospital, where he had been ill for the past seven weeks. Mr. Elsinger had been in failing health for about a year. The body was at the Kietzer funeral home at Lomira, and the last rites are being held this morning (Thursday) in St. Andrew's church at LeRoy, with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Elsinger was born at St. Lawrence on March 2, 1875, and was married to Clara Youngbeck of LeRoy. They spent their married life at Knowles, and Mrs. Elsinger preceded her husband in death about three years ago. Surviving are the children, Felix, at home, Almond, Appleton, and Reuben, Milwaukee; three grand-children; four brothers, Max Elsinger, this city, Mike, Knowles, Anton, Lomira, and Wolfgang, Oakfield. A sister, Mrs. Rose Stuckmeyer of Watertown, died only three weeks ago. He was buried on 25 March 1954 at St. Andrew's Cemetery, LeRoy, Dodge Co, WI.
