Hartshorne Willett Gilliland was born circa 1815 at New Jersey.1 He was the son of David Gilliland and Eleanor Perine Willett.1 Hartshorne Willett Gilliland married Ann Brown.1 Hartshorne Willett Gilliland and Ann Brown appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of New York City, New York County, New York, enumerated 3 September 1850, in the household of George E. Mills. Their children William H., George, Caroline, Ann M. and Willett were listed as living with them.2 His was employed in a book store. Hartshorne Willett and Ann appeared on the 15 June 1855 state census of New York, in New York County.3 Their children Susie Eleanor, William H. and Caroline were listed as living with them. Hartshorne Willett Gilliland and Ann Brown appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of New York City, New York County, New York, enumerated 9 July 1860. Their children William H. and Caroline were listed as living with them.4 Hartshorne Willett Gilliland and Ann Brown appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of New York City, New York County, New York, at St. Nicholas Avenue, enumerated 18 January 1870.5 His occupation was listed as policeman.
This Gilliland line appears to be from the Middlesex County, New Jersey Gillilands but I don't know yet how they tie-in. There was a Hartshorne Willett in East Brunswick in 1720. I'm guessing he's an ancestor of Hartshorne's mother Eleanor Perine Willett.
