He was re-elected commissioner at the August election in 1822.4 Thomas Gilliland appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Cotton township, Switzerland County, Indiana, with a household listed as two males under 10, one male 26-44, two females under 10, one female 10-15, and one female 26-44 with one person engaged in agriculture.5 On December 4, 1829, Thomas was assigned 167 acres of land in Switzerland County by John Gilliland.
